ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Osceola County man thought hed paid off a parking ticket, so he was surprised to find out Monday that the Orange County Clerks office had issued a warrant for his arrest.
Luis Gomez owed exactly one cent on a speeding ticket he received one year ago.
Gomez tried to call the court to resolve the problem, and then tried to pay online, but had no luck. They wont take a payment of a penny online, said Gomez.
Gomez works at a school in Orange County, and feared he would get arrested on campus in front of his students.
Eyewitness News contacted the clerks office on Gomezs behalf, and was told nobody would be arrested over a penny. When they were told the paperwork said otherwise, officials in the office said it must have been a mistake.
Gomez drove to the clerks office on Monday afternoon to pay, and was asked if he needed a payment plan. When he said no, he paid the cent and left with a receipt.
The status of Gomezs warrant was still unclear on Monday night, and he was told to follow up with the office on Tuesday.
Not only did it cost Orange County more to notify Gomez about the issue than a penny, Gomez had to pay $6 to park when he went in to pay.
There goes that efficient govt again.
Government efficiency.

Shut up, slave.
Shut up, slave.
I’m sure the county, cash strapped of course, was hoping for it to go to court so they could collect fines, interest, penalties, court costs, the guy’s first born...
Once Obama’s policies have their full impact he’ll be lucky if he has the penny to pay. Good thing he took care of it now.
nothing surprises me any longer....
A penny saved is a jail sentence earned............
A payment plan?
Ultimate coup de screw.
FANTASTIC!!!
Oh I want this gov’t handing MY health insurance!!!!!
i would have insisted on a payment plan....that would have been funny to watch the petty bureaucrats try and figure that one out...cheap entertainment
To start with, did they mail him a letter with a 44 cent stamp.
Local law enforcement orgs all over the country are beating the bushes for every penny they can scrounge up.
Just imagine how much better it is going to get. Soon they will be having a first year college course on how to tie your shoes.
Our grand daughter took a business course in college. Her first year she learned what I was taught in 10th grade.
Total dumbing down of Americans. Common sense is no longer taught in school. Which is why some mental midget in government thinks nothing of spending $200 or $300 to collect a penney.
“Shut up,” the government explained.
What did you do?
This is idiotic government inefficiency, of course, but I wonder what this guy did to get himself in this situation. Anywhere I’ve been, parking tickets (and moving violations, for that matter) have always been in whole dollar amounts. I wonder if this guy was trying to “take a stand” by sending in, say, $24.99 for a $25 ticket.
They will be in charge of your health care , soon
Just like the IRS is jacking up their enforcement.

Of course there was a mistake. The government made it.
Unfortunately....Orange County is run by RINO Conservatives....who pander to the growing Liberal Hispano-Racist powerbrokers.
Does not surprise me with Orange County threatening to arrest someone over one cent.....these are the same people that paid millions for fancy bridge support spans for Lake Underhill....and did not put them on the bridge...put them BEFORE the bridge.
Once upon a time, over 10 years ago, I did software for billing services. At that time, the estimate was that an invoice cost around $1.50 to send, based on all factors (hardware, software, accounting, personnel, printing, mailing).
