The Angels are FAR better than the Thunderbirds and that is coming from an Air Force guy!

Seconded by this former Zoomie. Not taking anything away from the Thunderbirds, they are certainly very good at what they do. Having said that, the Blue Angels' program is far superior with respect to the "wow factor."

"They Be Squids, but They Be Good!"

Hey, saw them last year and Left Wing and Lead Solo were both Marines! Oorah! (And to show how humble and charitable they are...they let a few sailors fly too...LOL...)

Actually a lot of them are Marines, not Squids. It's a mix.

Thanks for the link. They ARE THE BEST!

When we’re vacationing in Perdido Key, FL, we always try to get over to the Naval Air Station to watch the Blue Angels at their practices. SO exciting!

I was just talking to a friend who lives in Pensacola and the Blue Angels were practicing maneuvers over his house for the last 2 days. They fly with such precision and most stunning to watch live or otherwise.

SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

The Blues spend the summer at NAS Pensacola and practice weekdays at 8:00 AM. They have bleachers set up for those who want to watch.

We stayed in a condo on Perdido Key last August and watched every morning from our 6th floor balcony. It really is an exciting show.

Got a ride with the Snowbirds during practice about 15 years ago. Right seat in #4, (Slot plane)

They were GREAT, but so VERY Canadian. Last maneuver was a 9 ship love heart.

Best thing was the unit's traveling secretary. Their entire support was 2 admin, 2 mechanics, 1 PR and this woman. She was about 45, looked like Mrs. Appledumpling Gang, 300 lbs, had her own helmet and flight suit and could fly the A/C pretty well. She traveled everywhere as right seat in the #6 ship, as they had no support aircraft!

I first saw the Snowbirds at an airshow I performed at - - I was on a sky diving team. Hammelberg 1970, I think.

I remember back when Dianne Feinstein was Mayor of San Francisco. She would always object when the Blue Angels overflew the city. The Navy used to send them down even lower, every time she complained.

The Mayor was furious, but the people loved it!

Fantastic, no doubt! Just remember, there is always one Marine in there to hold things together.”

Anybody know where THIS one was performed?
That narrow strip of land over which they performed and which showed up repeatedly in the video, with ocean on one side and bay-looking water on the other looks awfully much like Ocean City, MD. If it WAS OCMD, the Angels would have taken off from and returned to Norfolk or other Navy base in the area. Just wondering.

The close formation aerobatics are really hot. It takes a LOTA practice.

The rest of it is pretty routine. My uncle used to let me do some of that stuff.

Damn, they are freakin awesome!!!!!

Can you imagine the absolute trust they have to have in eachother?

I have a little Blue Angel Story: When I was about 16, my sister Cathy was stationed in Lemoore CA. She took us to fleet week in Alameda. Here we are driving on the tarmac in her little toyota. We were pulled over by the MP’s..then this jeep full of guys drives up...yeah!!!

They talked to the MP’s and we followed the jeep to a hangar. It was where the Blue Angel jets were.

My sister knew the commander and a few of the pilots. It was great!!! We got a personal tour of the planes and got to sit in the cockpits. They were getting ready for the airshow.

It was one of the best memories I have.

Oh, yeah, I remember that. I grew up in Alameda. They would practice over the bay.

I was a gas to watch. We loved it.
