Postcard From Zimbabwe
New York Times ^ | April 8, 2010 | Nicholas Kristof

Here’s a measure of how President Robert Mugabe is destroying this once lush nation of Zimbabwe:

In a week of surreptitious reporting here (committing journalism can be a criminal offense in Zimbabwe), ordinary people said time and again that life had been better under the old, racist, white regime of what was then called Rhodesia.

“When the country changed from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe, we were very excited,” one man, Kizita, told me in a village of mud-walled huts near this town in western Zimbabwe. “But we didn’t realize the ones we chased away were better and the ones we put in power would oppress us.”

The only way to fix Zimbabwe is for someone to re-colonize it.

I vote for giving the job to the Chinese, myself. At least the won’t give a d@mn about “world opinion” while they’re putting that hell-hole back in order.

We have to give the African his place in his own country and we have to give him this economic power if he is going to develop.

Hey, how about the African EARNING his place and his economic power, like the Europeans and Asians did?

I am very sorry for the natives of this once-beautiful country. I am less forgiving of the British, Obama voting Americans, and other Westerners who should have known better. Everyone could see who Mugabe Obama was, even before he took over. This was all predictable.

I think Mr. Kristof was pretty explicit about what action he took: “But the clinic refused to give her some life-saving antimalaria medicine unless she paid $2 — and she had no money at all in her house. So, dizzy and feverish, she stumbled home for another four miles, EMPTY-HANDED.” In other words, Mr. Kristof didn’t give her a squat, most likely because he couldn’t find someone else’s pocket to steal it from.

I know the Rhodesia story all too well.

The blame rests squarely on Jimmy Carter and Andrew Young for the fall of Ian Smith and the entrance of Robert Mugabe...ANC backed Marxist murderers.

"That’s tribalism by whites."

He did manage to get this dig in.

“As it happened, the clinic that turned her down was one that I had already visited. Nurses there had complained that they were desperately short of bandages, antibiotics and beds. They said that to survive, they impose fees for seeing patients, for family planning, for safe childbirth — and the upshot is that impoverished villagers die because they can’t pay.”

Healthcare in socialist countries. Think it can’t happen here?

The New York Times published this??
Is this a joke? Or did I just not get to the part where Zimbabwe’s current plight is all the residual effect of the previous white leadership?

Okay, I read the rest...
Yes, the author Kristof made sure to remain politically correct as he talked about the previous “oppressive white regime”. He made sure to equate it with today’s Mugabe regime.

LOL, I thought I was hallucinating there for a minute!
Kristof is still the same cowardly, leftist scumbag he always was.
Okay, all is normal at the New York Times.

I suppose the NYT thinks communism would work well if the right people were in charge. And the NYT editors and reporters think they (the NYT) are the right people. God help us.

Clearly, Mugabe, and every other two-bit dictator, are not the “right people.” Funny how communism always nurtures this very kind of self-serving, brutal leader.

It won’t be “black ruled” for long. China is buying Africa wholesale. Any thugocracy that tries to nationalize Chinese assets will quickly learn that most large Chinese “businesses” are actually fronts for the Chinese military.

And they won’t care about “international opinion” when it comes time to drop the hammer...
