EAST HAMPTON - A 27-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment after two toddlers were found wandering around town in just their diapers, police said.
Police found two boys, ages 2 and 3, close to Flatbrook Road in a wooded area near a stream. Police said the boys were outside for about an hour.
When their mohter, Julie Root, showed up to the scene, she appeared to be under the influence of prescription pain medications, police said.

Not only was dad not charged, they released the kids to him!

Maybe he was sober, and wasn’t supposed to be in charge at the time.
When I mention on ‘legalize pot’ threads that kids will suffer most, I get called a ‘nanny stater.’ Why not make alcohol illegal, too, they ask.
Because one can have a drink or two or even three and not be drunk. Public drunkenness is already a crime, as is driving drunk, caring for children when drunk, etc.
Anyone who smokes the ganja gets high.
And they don’t all sit quietly in their living rooms doing no harm to anybody. They drive, they make major decisions, they neglect dependents, etc.

Great point. Maybe he was wearing a “Just Say No to Drugs!” T-shirt? :)
The only somewhat reasonable explanation might be that the children were in her care while he was sleeping, and since she stated that she “dozed off” while they were in her care, she alone was responsible.
It also could be that she either had them outside when she dozed off or left the door open.
They also could have opened the door.
It does happen and sometimes even to good parents.

The police charged her with being on prescription drugs. I'm sure if there was weed on her or in the house, she would have been charged with that as well.
