Nicolas Cage's foreclosed house nets zero at auction

Nicolas Cage bid adieu to another mansion Wednesday -- after no one bid for it in a foreclosure auction. His Bel-Air, Calif., Tudor estate went on the block starting at $10.4 million, a measly sum given that the "National Treasure" star had asked for $35 million when he put it on the market, the Los Angeles Times said. But the complex attracted only a minute of silence on the steps of a courthouse in Pomona, Calif.. Not that anyone expected it would be gone in 60 seconds. One Realtor described its decor to the Times as "frat-house bordello." And back to the lender it goes.

What do you make of that huge piece in the last pic on the left?

I"m thinking it's some sort of a time travel portal.

"Not talking about Obama, talking about Nicolas Cage."

True, Cage only got a percentage. Obama spent everything else.

Zero?.. Yeah look at the wild colors, I am not surprised. The worlds largest geode (sp?) in that last pic looked pretty cool though. But it ought to be in a museum .

This site has an amethyst stone with a dimension of 31"h x 25" wide for $4,500.00..

The one the pic has to be at least 6 ft. high and 5 ft. wide.

That’s one large stone.

IF that is amethyst in the picture, it looks like it is made of small crystals. I got an amethyst stone that was the size of my fist when I was a girl. It wasn’t gem quality, the color wasn’t pure, it was made of smaller crystals clumped together and over the years it just crumbled in my hands. It probably cost my mother $35 when she bought it.

He also spent like a RAT, with no concern for staying within his means

He clearly has no concern for staying in his mansion anymore.

His taxes has nothing to do with this current problem. It’s Mr. Cage’s irresponsible spending habits.

With all that money he earned, you would think Nicolas would have bought himself some taste.

What a Gaudy monstrosity.

From Wikipedia... a site I love to hate: "Geodes (Greek γεώδης - geōdēs, "earthlike") are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and certain volcanic rocks. Geodes are essentially rock cavities or vugs with internal crystal formations or concentric banding. The exterior of the most common geodes is generally limestone or a related rock, while the interior contains quartz crystals and/or chalcedony deposits. Other geodes are completely filled with crystal, being solid all the way through. These types of geodes are called nodules.

Formation

Geodes can form in any cavity, but the term is usually reserved for more or less rounded formations in igneous and sedimentary rocks, while the more general term '"vug"' is applied to cavities in fissures and veins. They can form in gas bubbles in igneous rocks, such as vesicles in basaltic lavas, or as in the American Midwest, rounded cavities in sedimentary formations. After rock around the cavity hardens, dissolved silicates and/or carbonates are deposited on the inside surface. Over time, this slow feed of mineral constituents from groundwater or hydrothermal solutions allows crystals to form inside the hollow chamber. Bedrock containing geodes eventually weathers and decomposes, leaving them present at the surface if they are composed of resistant material such as quartz.

Coloration

Most geodes contain clear quartz crystals, while others have purple amethyst crystals. Still others can have agate, chalcedony, or jasper banding or crystals such as calcite, dolomite, celestite, etc. There is no easy way of telling what the inside of a geode holds until it is cut open or broken apart. However, geodes from any one locality usually have a more restricted variety of interior mineralization.

Geodes and geode slices are sometimes dyed with artificial colors. Samples of geodes with unusual colors or highly unlikely formations have usually been synthetically altered.

Prevalence

Geodes are common in some formations in the United States (mainly in Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, and Utah). They also are common in Brazil, Namibia, and Mexico. A large geode was discovered in Put-in-Bay, Ohio in the early 20th century. It is known as Crystal Cave, and tours are possible during the summer. In 1967, Iowa designated the geode as the official state rock, and it has a Geode State Park.

The exterior is beautiful. The interior shows some finishes such as the green glazed wall finish in the bath that have been quite popular in recent years. The library room with the geode is really quite a lovely room... perhaps not to your taste, but certainly not hideous.
