yeah but after months of saying I am going to resign why now ... Why start the argument now, unless of course you need a distraction ...

I question the timing ... SC Justices usually exit at the end of the term. Resigning right after the health care debacle, too convenient.

"Justice John Paul Stevens confirmed Friday that he will be stepping down this summer, after the court finishes its work for the term, and a few days before his 90th birthday (late June or early July)."

fight, with every thing we’ve got

but don’t lose sight of the Obammunism closing in around us with regulations

And above all else, continue to round up good qualified conservative candidates

Yes I know but why resign right now ... it’s to distract people from the cell for the American people they are building.

I think he sees that if he waits until next year, it’s going to be much more difficult to get an ideologically-pure replacement confirmed by the Senate.

filibuster until you can filibuster no more

You are right in your reasoning though.

I agree with all of you about McCain. His ‘change of heart’ is merely my way of saying, he is for the border fence as a result of Palin’s help.

A good running mate and friend is like a good wife. You may have disagreements but you won't give it up to your friends and family, a decent person keeps it between themselves.

I'm still not convinced, I don't trust McCain at all, he will do ANYTHING to get re-elected. Stands to show what will come of it. I might trust Palin but not McCain.

I certainly don't trust the man, and don't believe he is sincere about the fence. Just because he said it, doesn't mean he means it. Part of his saying it is to get re-elected, and part of it was to appease Sarah. Some of you are reading me wrong, or I'm doing one poor job of expressing myself.

I would say fight tooth and nail. (and I opposed fighting either Breyer or Ginsberg tooth and nail. My reasoning was that Clinton would not nominate anyone more moderate than they. R’s fought Lani Guinere — they got Deval Patrick.)

But I see an opportunity here. To my mind, if the R’s derail the choice, gain seats — even gaining 10 seats is not out of the question like it once was — then Obama just might nominate a moderate.

Amazing how they see the light once they feel the heat — and always so close to an election and especially with a challenge from the right.

“I disagree. O’Conner was a swing vote. She was replaced by a liberal farther out than Ginsberg. Stevens has also swung conservative at times, a practice that I’m sure his sucessor will not follow.”

You are aware that Obama didn’t nominate O’Connor’s replacement, right? Bush did that and fine damned job he did too (Sam Alito).

The deeply disappointing David Souter was replaced by Sotomayor, Obama’s pick.

Yeah, I already got corrected. I’m not sure what alternate universe I was posting from. Souter was the leech that retired.
