Actually, the Republicans could win in 2010 with Steele there. Why? The American people don’t even known what “RNC” means and don’t know who Steele even is. Steele would then take false credit for a victory. And the American people would know none of this.

I thought he was elected to court recalcitrant voters in MD into the hapless GOP!

Impy is hoping that Steele could run for senate in Maryland and become part of the solution rather than part of the problem. I don’t know. McStain certainly has created problems as a senator. I can’t imagine Steele changing for the better if he loses his chairmanship.

Some people are scared that Steele would race-bait even more if we dump him. The problem is, he’s doing it anyway, and RNC is diminishing.

In article:
“Meanwhile, his fundraising record has been mediocre, and now major donors are deserting the RNC in droves.”

I like to think that contributions to CONSERVATIVES is at record highs, but I really don’t know.

I think Americans are ALREADY sick of the race card and would find Steele getting canned refreshing. It is tempting to let him stay and just work around the jerk. The theory is that we can win despite Steele, but if he joins the other side, it’s a risk that he’ll turn on us full force. Sickening.

I’d like to see Palin chair the RNC for a while. She energizes conservatives. The experience would be a good growing experience for her. Currently, she is rallied behind Steele [like anyone considering a run].

“Let him make speeches on street corners with a bullhorn.”

The left wing would make him a media darling. Steele, victimized by “racist” conservatives. The question is, are most Americans sick of all this race baiting? Or do they still fall for it? If they are sick of it, and I think they are, then they would laugh at his whining on TV. If they still believe all that BO-BS race baiting rubbish, we would be crushed. It looks like a big gamble. I agree that we would lose some support, but we would also gain energy in the base with a conservative.

Cain would be an outstanding chairman for the RNC. He’s got it going. Great thought.

“get down into the gutter and fight” ~ you said that. I am letting you know I am willing to go into any gutter necessary to defeat the class enemy and recover our country.

When George StepAndFetchIt asked the RNC head whether his race gives him a “slimmer margin for error.” Steele could have replied “race has nothing to do with what we are talking about” thereby shutting George up and then gone on to make a point instead of an excuse. I like Steele on the whole but he too is infected somewhat with the common black ailment of victimhood.

I voted for Herman Cain in the Republican Senatorial primary here, over Johnny Isakson. While far from perfect, Isakson has turned out much better than expected, but I still would have rather we had gotten Cain. He just GETS it.

He is making private deals with the illegal immigrant lobby to sell us out. The “race” thing is just smoke & mirrors.

“Immigrant Leaders Get Commitment from RNC Chairman Steele to Help in ... support for comprehensive and bipartisan immigration reform. ...”

But “sides differ on outcome”. It appears Steele doesn’t want us to know what his amnesty thoughts are.

Too late! Steele got “outed” in his little game.

First thing is, keep your self respect. Once you lose that, you’ve lost everything else. He was hired to boost the GOP, and instead he’s sabotaging it, and the only two arguments for keeping him is: 1. He made a nice speech the other day; and 2. He could claim the GOP is racist and make a bunch of noise. There are plenty of nice speech makers, and considering his outrageous behavior, the GOP can dump him with a clear conscience. Let him spin that ‘til his head falls off.

The other side? Steele won’t join the rats if that’s what you mean.

He’s not the leader some thought he was but he’s no democrat. You may wonder about many GOP “leaders”. Occam’s razor would tell us they are just idiots not DNC plants.

He’s highly gaffe prone but he’s no worse than his predecessor the incompetent Mike Duncan. The difference is Duncan didn’t get much press since he was never as high profile due to his serving under a GOP President.

He deserves to be canned. But the process is difficult and I think it requires a supermajority of RNC members. They won’t try it unless certain of success. If the desire to see him go becomes that strong I believe he’d resign under pressure before being removed.

I expect unless the Senate idea comes into play that’ll he’ll stay on for the rest of his two-year term and face a reelection challenge in 2011. He’s not helping our midterm chances but ironically the better the midterm results the less likely it is he’d be defeated.

I didn’t see his speech, but to hear him say that Obama has a slimmer margin than he does tells me that he has no understanding of the GOP/Dem/MSM relationship. Or his place in it...JFK

Right. It was demoralizing trying to carry water for McStain during the race.

I voted for him in the hopes that he would die and Sara Palin would become President. Yes, that’s a terrible thing to hope for, especially from a war hero and all. But that was all the “hope” I could martial for that election. Any other way you slice it, the future was miserable and without any good options.

Thank you for your take, FRiend. You are very knowedgeable. But my gut’s telling me that Steele is a lot like Colin Powell.
