Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI

April 11, 2010 Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI Marc Horne

Atheist campaigner Richard Dawkins RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”.

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.

The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases.

I suggest leaving it.

It’s such a classic example of Roman Catholic et al duplicity, hypocrisy, wailing, whining and flinging hostility . . .

This is so typical. The response when their church is criticized is to attack the individual and ignore the criticism. What of the victims? Aren't Christians supposed to worry about the weak first?

Of course. Christ tells us...

"And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea." -- Mark 9:42

Apparently some Roman Catholic apologists have no fear of disobeying Jesus Christ.

if this church wanted to protect it's reputation it should have "thrown the doors open" when they first learned there was a problem. They choose a different route deny, deny, deny.

We, as Christians and Protestants and Americans find it difficult to understand how this kind of secrecy and destruction can linger so long and so deep within a particular church. We resist believing that evil resides within. We assume people are basically good. We desire to think well of our fellow man and so we easily under-estimate the power and intensity of the father of lies and of our own fallen natures.

But as Christians who read the Bible we are reminded that all men are sinners and corruption is our default setting unless and until the Holy Spirit intervenes to rescue us.

The Roman Catholic church protects pedophiles because that is who the Roman Catholic church is -- an authoritarian mafia of supercilious, deluded men who consider themselves to be "another Christ" (alter Christus) who have abused children for centuries in the name of priestly prerogative.

But, make no mistake, I am no fan of Islam, nor is Hitchens, read his works, its illuminating.

Nobody can read everything.

Personally, I would rather read more Bernard Lewis, Winston Churchill, Lawrence of Arabia, Paul Fregosi, Raphael Patai, John Schindler and so many others...

I'll sidestep the third-grade game of "my books are better then your books..."

Standard Operating Procedures.

Some hostilities are more equal than others . . . at least far more common.

More rubber history, rubber “Bible” and rubber theology.

I suspect that, being a good Christian, the RM occasionally has other things to do on Sunday. And, if I were a different mod, I’d be happy to wait for him to return to duty to deal with THAT! LOL.

WELL PUT.

The double standard stance seems to be almost a ritual, dogma, requirement from Rome.

“The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys.”

So.....”the church” and how it is viewed is more important than the virtue of young boys?

Thanks.

I was shocked in rereading some of those . . . how

utterly heretical and blasphemous SO MANY OF THEM brazenly were.

Eyes to see, indeed.

Sigh.

Very true, but remember this.

The “World Court” has seized heads of state, or former heads of state, even though the rule of Sovereign Immunity applied.

In fact, Bush was threatened with indictment. And he may yet be forced to come before the court. As the UN and other superstate powers get stronger, they will start to force their will on other states.

Any organization that is composed of humans is going to have human foibles and human errors and bad human judgment in it. Nobody is in a position to be able to throw stones.

It's the cover up that makes it so much worse

Granted, but again, I reiterate. It is that judgement to which I refer. The acts are indefensible. The accounts in the media of the reaction to them relfects questionable judgement in that reaction.

I was not there, I pretend no knowledge of what was said nor that which was done, nor of the protocols for handling such instances, but the appearance the media gives is that the choices were of questionable nature.

However, the MSM is composed of people, many of whom have an axe to grind with the one Church which has failed to yield onany of the MSM's pet issues, especially abortion and homosexuality.

To present a gay-infused and often atheistic media as an unbiased attacker would be disingenious indeed.

They too, will face a higher judge (as will we all).

Whatever happened to turning the other cheek?

Sorry, I can't resist; normally I avoid these theads like the plague...

I figure if it's not one of the Ten Commandments it's just a suggestion.
JC didn't turn the other cheek when he ran into the Jerusalem Wall Street crowd.

Oh, list me among the unforunates who suffered 15 years of Christian Brothers/Jesuit education and never even once heard rumors of a pervert priest.
