The US military has warned that surplus oil production capacity could disappear within two years and there could be serious shortages by 2015 with a significant economic and political impact.
The energy crisis outlined in a Joint Operating Environment report from the US Joint Forces Command, comes as the price of petrol in Britain reaches record levels and the cost of crude is predicted to soon top $100 a barrel.
"By 2012, surplus oil production capacity could entirely disappear, and as early as 2015, the shortfall in output could reach nearly 10 million barrels per day," says the report, which has a foreword by a senior commander, General James N Mattis.
It adds: "While it is difficult to predict precisely what economic, political, and strategic effects such a shortfall might produce, it surely would reduce the prospects for growth in both the developing and developed worlds. Such an economic slowdown would exacerbate other unresolved tensions, push fragile and failing states further down the path toward collapse, and perhaps have serious economic impact on both China and India."
The US military says its views cannot be taken as US government policy but admits they are meant to provide the Joint Forces with "an intellectual foundation upon which we will construct the concept to guide out future force developments."

Future fuel supplies are of acute importance to the US army because it is believed to be the biggest single user of petrol in the world
Obviously they haven't seen "The Road Warrior".
US military...AKA....BHO
Are you seeing a pattern, here????
On the other hand, since there is a lag of years to get increased supplies to the need, starting now won't help in 2012 or 2015, so there isn't any point in starting anything at all to fix the problem.
And who hates the US armed forces? The same group that is destroying our ability to produce oil, Hussein and the Democrat Party.
Obama-bozo-bots think Americans love their military so they will buy these lies.
A few facts would help, Coal can be turned into liquid transport fuel at less than $30 a barrel oil equivalent. If you never drill where there is oil, you may never find anymore. America has the world's largest share of coal, yet it is China who is building coal refineries at breakneck speeds right now ... Truth is your friend, lies won't sustain you.
I think this ‘warning’ is laughable on it's face.
Exactly. Obastard thinks that the US military needs to be taken down a notch and the US along with it. What better way than to choke off our transportation needs and destroy the economy than to deny it the energy it needs.

Another reason the military should be afraid of their Commander in Chief. We need to open up the drilling in this country and do it now. Not five years from now.
True, so why isn’t the military building coal to liquids refineries ... Like China is now doing?
Another true-ism — If you never drill where the oil is, you may never find more oil.
And WOW, who new the USA had so much oil shale. But if you contuse to make wild horse preserves of it ...
The left is such low grade liars, it’s pathetically silly.
“an intellectual foundation upon which we will construct the concept to guide out future force developments.”
????What sort of double talk is this?
Hey, that's my (tag )line!
If it’s not one thing, it’s another. The word ‘collapse’ is still appearing to often.
Wow. Too bad those cars aren’t made in america.
Drill Here Drill NOW!
Also remember that oil producers, such as Russia and Venezuela, are consuming more of their own oil, leaving less to export
