The Glory of Poland
By ROGER COHEN Published: April 12, 2010
NEW YORK My first thought, hearing of the Polish tragedy, was that historys gyre can be of an unbearable cruelty, decapitating Polands elite twice in the same cursed place, Katyn.
My second was to call my old friend Adam Michnik in Warsaw. Michnik, an intellectual imprisoned six times by the former puppet-Soviet Communist rulers, once told me:
Anyone who has suffered that humiliation, at some level, wants revenge. I know all the lies. I saw people being killed. But I also know that revanchism is never ending. And my obsession has been that we should have a revolution that does not resemble the French or Russian, but rather the American, in the sense that it be for something, not against something. A revolution for a constitution, not a paradise. An anti-utopian revolution. Because utopias lead to the guillotine and the gulag.
Michniks obsession has yielded fruit. President Lech Kaczynski is dead. Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of the National Bank, is dead. An explosion in the fog of the forest took them and 94 others on the way to Katyn. But Polands democracy has scarcely skipped a beat. The leader of the lower house of Parliament has become acting president pending an election. The first deputy president of the National Bank has assumed the duties of the late president. Poland, oft dismembered, even wiped from the map, is calm and at peace.

The fruit he speaks of is the orderly transition following the tragedy.
God bless the good people and our allies in Poland. The American people stand with the Poles, even as our so called Government leadership distances themselves from her and breaks previous agreements.
Leave it to the Times to praise Putin in this piece.
How do we know it was an accident?
Abosute genius from a former imprisoned Polish dissident: “And my obsession has been that we should have a revolution that does not resemble the French or Russian, but rather the American, in the sense that it be for something, not against something. A revolution for a constitution, not a paradise. An anti-utopian revolution. Because utopias lead to the guillotine and the gulag.
And yet that pig, Jaruzelski still lives.
That's brilliant. Just absolutely, hands down, unquestionably top-10 most intelligent and astute historical observations ever.
SO the Slimes elevates Michnik to spokesperson. The guy that equates socialism with democracy.
That sucks.
Putin is slaughtering ...
Who exactly? your fantasies...?
Yeah, Michnik actually is not the best person to talk about his sorrow after this tragedy
Wow. Gotta join others in highlighting this quote.
After all it is the SLIMES.
I would much rather hear from one of my heroes: LECH!
“How do we know it was an accident?”
Because “Lizol” said it was; and stated in another thread that the author who hinted at it being a conspiracy is a lunatic. Guy sure has great intel. somthing like you would expect from a James Bond movie.
Just a terrible tragedy.
The genocidal monster Putin is guilty of mass murder of many thousands of Christian Georgian patriots fighting for their homeland against criminal Russian barbarian invaders. You may choose not to recognize the Christianity, or even the humanity of Putin’s innocent victims, but Georgians are people too, and Americans are aware of evil Putin’s horrible crimes, despite the hard work or his sycophantic apologists.
You are way too bizarre to respond to.
I will say this: Most Georgians would like Mussolini Sasshkavili to go away. Maybe he can get a job with Soros.
