Phoenix, AZ (April 15) – Republican U.S. Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) today released the names of individuals and groups that contributed to the Freedom in Truth Trust (FIT Trust), an entity created to defray costs of a Department of Justice (DOJ) inquiry that fully vindicated the former congressman.
“People were kind and generous enough to contribute a total of $152,130.42 to this trust to pay lawyers who worked with the DOJ to make clear what I already knew – these were trumped up political charges with no basis in fact,” Hayworth said. “I am more than willing to provide the names of the people who supported me as I was willing to cooperate with the inquiry.
“I am voluntarily releasing these names, because I have pledged to run a transparent, open, and honest campaign. And that is the way I will run the office entrusted to me by Arizona voters in the United States Senate.”
The average contribution to the trust was $361 from a total 421 donors. The list of contributors can be found here. The contributions were made after Hayworth left Congress and were spent on attorneys’ fees and minimal administrative costs associated with the trust.
In December of 2007, the DOJ advised Hayworth’s attorneys that Hayworth is “not now the target, subject or focus [of] any DOJ investigation, case or other proceeding." According to Hayworth’s attorneys the DOJ responded that “there was nothing in [Hayworth’s] congressional office or in [his] personal activities for the Department of Justice to investigate or pursue.”
The FIT Trust remains active.

You are overlooking those ‘fines’. John has explained many times that paying a ‘fine’ to get from illegal to legal status ,(but no back taxes or having to wait in line), is not amnesty :)
I still remember him defending them getting social Security benefits. Imagine....that is enough for me.
