“Tea Party Express unveils ‘heroes,’ ‘targets’”
Posted: April 15th, 2010 01:14 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Washington (CNN) –

SNIPPET: “In the lengthy press conference that partially amounted to a pat on the back for their efforts at impacting a handful of key races in the last several months, the group said they are only supporting candidates they feel have a viable shot at winning next November.

“In politics, you always have to be careful to promise what to do,” said Sal Russo, a GOP consultant who is aiding the Tea Party in their efforts. “We try to keep our focus on the doable. We have a lot of wonderful candidates that simply can’t win. So our focus is on the candidates that can win so we can really focus on taking America back.””

SNIPPET: “On the House side, the group is also backing one Democrat - Walt Minnick of Idaho who is part of the “Blue Dog” coalition of centrist Democrats.”

“The Tea Party Endorsement That Wasn’t”

SNIPPET: “The Tea Party Express’s endorsement of Rep. Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) has had little real political impact so far. After the endorsement, TPE’s Sal Russo couldn’t tell when we might see, say, a TV ad or mailer for Minnick — although Mark Williams claimed that the group had planned to run ads supportive of Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) until he decided to support the final version of health-care reform.

So what impact have we seen? A vast and efficient cheesing-off of tea party groups in Idaho.”
