WRKO suspends talk show host Carr
Boston Globe ^ | April 16, 2010 | Erin Ailworth

Conservative talk radio host Howie Carr of WRKO 680 AM has been suspended for a week, effective Friday, for publicly and repeatedly using his program to bad-mouth the station, a company executive said.

Julie Kahn, vice president and marketing manager for Entercom Boston, which owns the station, said Carr’s behavior toward his employer has become increasingly caustic and intolerable.

‘‘His behavior and his anger at the company is unacceptable because he denigrates the company, the medium, the station, the signal, and he’s a highly, highly, highly paid employee,’’ she said.

Who knows; I do know WHYN 560 in nearby Springfield is
owned by Clear Channel and they have a morning show plus
Beck, Rush, and Coast to Coast all from Clear Channel/Premiere plus Howie (from WRKO) and Savage (from
Talk Radio Network). Of course WTIC 1080 also runs Rush
plus Hannity (at night though often pre-empted by Sox) and they are owned by CBS. But I don’t know if CC will enter Hartford (as far as I know they don’t own stations there
or at least not talk or news)

Ah, WHYN is owned by Clear Channel. I didn't know that (or maybe you told me once and forgot). No wonder they use Fox News for their half-hour news updates.

The way WTIC 1080 runs Hannity is a joke... you're right, his show is pretty much always pre-empted by Red Sox 6 months out of the year. But, I guess it's better than nothing. I wish they'd run Hannity during his regular live, drive-time (3-6pm). And I wish we had Mark Levin in this market as well.

I think Howie was suspended by WRKO for just this week. As far as I know, he’ll be back the week after next...

try 1200 too
Jeff Katz, Beck, Rush, Hannity, Lewis, Levin

Yes, GOPsterinMA... Definitely give 1200 AM a try. You guys are so lucky to have this "Rush station" in your area! :o)

“Yes, that looks sort of like the Rush billboard on the Mass Pike.. LOL.”

I wonder how many bow-tied bumkissers give THAT billboard a digital salute on the way to their coat holder gigs every day?

one night here in Beverly I heard WEEI shut off to do maintenance...and KOA came in

Can hear WABC when a semi-local station music station at 770 drops their power to from 5 kW daytime to 50 watts nighttime here. :)

The one I believe in New Orleans that runs 50,000 watts day and night and can be heard almost anywhere in the US is WWL.

From Wikipedia, here's a list of AM stations that are designated "clear channel", many of these are the originals and have been grandfathered.  I don't believe the FCC issues 50,000 watt licenses these days anymore. (list includes Canadian and Mexican)

Right - 1200 I forgot about that! Thank you FRiends for the reminder.

Methinks this is payback to Howie for all he did to get Scott Brown elected...

What's the deal with Col. David Hunt, Howie's fill-in? He used the term “tea-baggers” at least six times today then mouthed off about the people being mainly white males who are angry at “no only Dems but Republicans, too.” He then made a comment about Sarah Palin blow-up dolls and then criticized someone who mentioned Obama’s “Communist” connections.

he’s a lib (maybe) who voted for Obama—or at least considers himself an indie. I’m glad he fought for our country but I don’t like him as a fill-in, myself...
