Both Republican hopefuls hold an early advantage in the first Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 telephone survey of the U.S. Senate race in Arizona.
Newly announced Democratic candidate Rodney Glassman, a Tucson City Council member, earns 32% support to Senator John McCain's 54%. Eight percent (8%) would vote for some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
If McCain's GOP Primary challenger, former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, is the Republican in the race, he gets 48% support, while Glassman picks up 39% of the vote. Seven percent (7%) would opt for some other candidate, while another seven percent (7%) are undecided.
McCain, who is seeking a fifth Senate term, leads Hayworth by just five points, 47% to 42%, in the latest Rasmussen Reports survey of the primary race. Arizona Republicans will pick their candidate in an August 24 primary. Glassman faces no serious competition for his party's nomination at this point

If the Reps cannot win the Senate seat in AZ un 2010, then this hype about a Rep tsunami in the midterms is a fantasy.
While I believe that electability is important and that compromise is sometimes necessary, there are also times when one should stand pat and take a chance. This is one of those cases. Arizona conservatives should do everything they can to get J.D. Hayworth elected.
McCain is still leading, but they say that any time an incumbent drops below 50%, he’s in real trouble. I suspect a lot of people would vote for McCain just because he’s their senator, he’s been around all their lives, and they can’t imagine anyone else taking his place until he’s ready to retire.
But evidently 42% are imagining someone else. Go, Hayworth.
“Glassman faces no serious competition for his party’s nomination at this point....”
....until Juan Hussein McCain switches to the Democrats after it appears he will lose the GOP nomination to Hayworth
Sarah Palin needs to SHUT UP and stop endorsing RINO, McPain. THIS is they kind of crap that has to stop. Cronyism and paying back favors - hey, Palin supporters, is this really what we NEED and WANT? More RINO'S like McPain and Sarah Palin’s KEEPING THESE RINO'S in office?
Hayworth is gaining. If Palin and others would not be pushing McCain, I believe the gap would be closed.
Is Glassman a far lefty?
Ambitious Nobody
You would think that the McCain crowd would notice just a few of these stories.
Illegal alien accused of raping, prostituting mentally disabled Florida teens
April 14, 9:04 PM
On Tuesday, Mario Alberto Laguna-Guerrero, 25, was denied bail by Magistrate Judge Mark A. Pizzo, and faces federal sex trafficking charges, after he allegedly forced one mentally disabled girl into prostitution and raped another.
On March 31, deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office arrested Laguna-Guerrero on sexual battery charges.
According to the affidavit, the Mexican national told investigators that he had been dating the 17-year-old girl, who has an IQ of 58, and asked her to become a prostitute for him. He also admitted that he took the girl to so-called migrant labor camps where she performed sex acts with men for a fee of $25.
The girl told ICE agents that she would be with up to nine johns a night.
Laguna-Guerrero told detectives that he asked the 17-year-old to recruit her classmates into prostitution as well.
The girl said she tried to recruit a mentally disabled 16-year-old on her school bus. According to her mother, the 16-year-old has the mental capacity of a second-grader.
When the young woman refused to become a prostitute, an angry Laguna-Guerrero allegedly raped her in front of the other girl.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged the illegal alien with sex trafficking of a minor, if convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Laguna-Guerrero has been in the country illegally since 2002.
I don’t know much about Glassman, so I’ll bet he’s typical of his party.
Is there any other kind?
Someone may also want to point out these ILLEGAL ALIEN stories to Sarah Palin and ASK THEM WHY they bother to listen to her endorsement of McPain?
We need to get ILLEGAL ALIENS out of this country.
Have them “get in line”, do a background check and make sure they are the kind of people we WANT in our country. Sorry, McPain, we don’t need more criminals here - made LEGAL.
That is the definition of an amnesty. We don't allow lawbreakers to be rewarded by allowing them to stay and work here. The back of the line begins in their home country. Let's start enforcing the law.
“I hope .D. Hayworth wins.
Sarah Palin needs to SHUT UP and stop endorsing RINO, McPain. THIS is they kind of crap that has to stop. Cronyism and paying back favors - hey, Palin supporters, is this really what we NEED and WANT? More RINO’S like McPain and Sarah Palins KEEPING THESE RINO’S in office? “
Palin is still running daily radio ads for McCain all over Arizona.
And Juan seems to be dodging debates with JD so far. Juan is so vulnerable for so many flip-flops and alliances with leftists that it’s no wonder he doesn’t want to have to answer for his past actions and inactions.
I don’t think Juan has ever been forcefully confronted on all his RINOism and alliances with the left. JD is someone who will confront him, and Juan knows it.
“...and they cant imagine anyone else taking his place until hes ready to retire.”
:::::::
I sure can...and I don’t live in Arizona!!!
There were McCainiacs here insisting that Hayworth would lose to a Democrat. Scoreboard. Stupid John is in real trouble.
Glassman is a member of the Tucson City Council, one of the most incompetent groups of morons on the planet. It isn't a place from which to seek a senate seat. The Dems know they are toast here.
JD needs to win in order to put establishment Republicans on notice that none of their seats are safe from the wrath of the voters. The odds are very high that the House and Senate will go back to the Republicans. At that point the biggest problem will be to get them to deliver what they said they would do. Defeating McCain will all show them that even an ultra safe establishment Republican is not safe.
