Salt from Wales used to make President Obamas favourite caramel has helped to boost British food export figures for the fifth consecutive year.
The Presidents passion for Smoked Salt Caramels, produced by the artisan confectioner Frans Chocolates of Seattle, is one of the successful trade stories which led to total food and drink exports last year being valued at £9.65 billion.
The increased sales were just 4.4 per cent, but in a difficult year because of the economic downturn and when other manufacturing sectors suffered an overseas sales slump of 11.8 per cent, the performance has lifted morale among entrepreneurs in the food industry....
The sweet has been a favourite for four years after one of his original campaign team, who hails from seattle, gave him a box as a present. These caramels are now handed out to visitors to the White House.

Arugula is damn good, and my family was eating it before Obama was a gleam in some Kenyan’s eye. Artisinal chocolates are superior to Hersey bars. Let’s not let the libs have a monopoly on fine foods.
Fran’s Chocolates are made in the US. The smoked salt comes from Wales.
Chocolate has to be imported, too. It doesn’t grow in the US.
Sorry, but American chocolate is poor in comparison to British and European chocolate.
Any American who has tasted British or European chocolate will understand Obama’s choice. Apologies, but your mass produced chocolate is quite poor.

The salt is from Wales and they are made in Seattle. It does not say where the chocolate is from.
Salted caramels are awesome! As are the ones covered in chocolate.
But some chocolate is milled here. There are some artisan companies in recent years.
Mmmmm. Belgian. I have a friend from there who goes back every couple of years, and he always brings me back some dark.
