Rudy Giuliani is taking sides in the contentious Republican Senate primary battle in Kentucky.
The former New York City mayor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate announced Monday that he is endorsing Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, according to the Grayson campaign.
Grayson is involved in a pitched battle with Rand Paul, a physician and the son of former GOP presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Ron Paul, for their party's nomination.
Both are trying to succeed Sen. Jim Bunning, the Republican lawmaker who announced last summer that he would not run for a third term. National GOP leaders rallied around Grayson at the time, but Paul, a favorite with conservatives and with many in the Tea Party movement, has picked up steam and some polls indicate that he leads Grayson in the GOP primary matchup.
"Trey Grayson is the candidate in this race who will make the right decisions necessary to keep America safe and prevent more attacks on our homeland," Giuliani said in a statement. "He is not part of the 'blame America first' crowd that wants to bestow the rights of U.S. citizens on terrorists and point fingers at America for somehow causing 9/11."

Grayson received endorsements from Giuliani and Santorum. Grayson is hitting Rand Paul for being weak on national defense while Paul is linking Grayson with GOP leadership on Capitol Hill.
Meanwhile, Ron Paul is hitting his donors give money to his son because Grayson received the endorsement of big gov’t statist and NeoCon, Rudy Giuliani.
I’m probably alone in this, but I don’t feel passionately about this primary. Either candidate is acceptable to me. I do worry that Rand Paul may make a major gaffe in the general election, or that Trey Grayson will go establishment if he is elected. But on the whole, I could support either one.

That’s right. Rudy Giuliani has stuck his beak into Rand’s race, endorsing his opponent and blaming Rand for being part of the “blame America” crowd. Disgusting.
Trust me. Us folk in Ky just assume someone named Rudy Guiliani is a basketball coach at best, but more likely a Newport mobster.

Meanwhile elsewhere on the on the endorsement front, Mike Pence endorse Todd Tiarht for Senate. Tom Coburn endorsed Jim Moran. Also James Dobson endorsed Dan Coats.
There a few New Englanders who hope Giuliani will run in 2012. There is a better chance for Giuliani and Huckabee to be playing bingo in a senior center in Palm Beach in 2012. Both Giuliani and Huckabee have recently bought homes in Florida.

Ah, yes the famous (or infamous depending on your view) Rudy purge thread. FR lost dozens of members either by being banned or quitting in disgust. That is one episode that most on here would not like to see be repeated.

If there has ever been a “on the front line and not knowing which way to shoot” situation, this is it.
Looks like the Dems would be very happy to run against Rand Paul and pick up a seat. Republicans never learn — they keep nominating candidates who are demolished by Dems. Those are the REAL ‘RINO’s, who in the name of “conservatism” hand victory to the Democrats.
“Kentucky wouldn’t ordinarily be a state Democrats would be watching in a year like this one. But Paul, who shares many of his father’s libertarian views, may not be the ideal candidate even in a good Republican climate. ...he also wants to end the war in Iraq and repeal the Patriot Act, which isn’t quite where mainstream GOP voters are these days.
“In this Red state (at the federal level), Democrats continue to have one of its best pickup opportunities,” Markos Moulitsas wrote on Daily Kos Tuesday. “If the economy picks up a little bit, running against crazy ol’ Rand, we stand a real chance.”
