The U.S. Census Bureau expects to add up to 750,000 workers to its payroll by May, a hiring binge that could knock the unemployment rate down by as much as a half-point.
The once-a-decade census is coming at the best possible time for President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats, who have taken political lumps for more than a year over a jobless rate that stands at 9.7 percent.

Someone rightfully reminded that thread of the DOG AND PONY SHOW that is the census...I found the link, and what you all to remember, and remind, your liberal friends and "NEWS" organizations in your towns--THIS IS A MIRAGE....
bad bad bad..temp jobs..would rather get mine in the mail instead of having strangers roaming my neighborhood
750,000???
That is insane.
9.7-.5=9.2 - still way too high. And these “750,000 people” produce nothing.
lol this article is for march..isnt census over?
Obama is a fraud.
band-aid and make-up...
Not really, now comes the nasty part: people who didn’t fill out the form are visited by these temps until they give up and sign up. Ought to provide a lot of unhappiness across this great land. That’s a kind of production, I guess.
No worries. 0bama’s loony left policies are busy negating the effects of any census hiring . So far, weekly job claims and the unemployment rate have not gone down, despite massive census hiring. All that is gonna happen is, those who have given up on job seeking may decide to join the job market again, and keep the unemployment rate high. Given that real unemployment is hovering around 17%, I don't see the unemployment rate going anywhere.
How many were hired in previous censuses?
And I think the Post Office could have easily taken care of it ... for free.
750,000 workers???
Amazing
Big government at its worst, and its most foolish.
Didn’t officially start until April 1. Don’t think the door to door people don’t start going till next week or later. First they have to find out who didn’t respond to the mailed version, then go to their door with nifty GPS, PDA, and a squad of DHS agents to make sure you answer the questions.
(okay just kidding about the last part, or am I...)
After the Census is over they can move right over to the TSA, since they will know how to intimidate people real well.
....and it will drop by 750K when the head count is over....
Well... I know someone who hired on for the Census to make some extra bucks....he was told by someone that they really do NOT have enough TO DO.....even though they called him in for another weeks worth of training! I think this is called MAKE WORK....and JOBS.
Lol... maybe the census can be taken a couple of times a month for the next 50 years?
I worked as a Questionnaire Assistance Center representative until April 19. It was $9.25/hr. to sit at library 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. More than likely, they’ll be calling me in early May to be one of Obama’s thugs. It’s NOT full employment.
Now I see how Joe Biden is arriving at his numbers.
Add 750,000 Census workers, see a drop of 500,000 in unemployemnt.
Net gain = 250,000
Yep, just kiddin. I am a Crew Leader for 15 enumerators. We will begin Non Response Follow Up on May 1. Just paper and pencil, no GPS nor ‘puters. It will be a fair amount of income for me over the next 10 weeks or so. Believe me, I am cognizant of the fact that these are tax dollars. Also aware that the Census is called for explicitly in the Constitution, just like the RKBA. It would be interesting to know how much money is spent on the Census, and how it compares with previous efforts.
My neighbor applied months ago and was told he would not start until next week. I think the majority of these hires are for the door to door “visits” now that they have identified who hasn’t mailed it back in.
