AZ-Sen. 2010: McCain to Obama: Send troops to border if you don't like new immigration law

President Barack Obama should dispatch National Guard troops to the border if he doesn’t like Arizona’s new immigration law, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Friday.

McCain, who endorsed the tough new Arizona law earlier this week, defended it as necessary because of the federal government’s inability to secure the border.

“If the president doesn’t like what the Arizona Legislature and governor may be doing, then I call on the president to immediately call for the dispatch of 3,000 National Guard troops to our border and mandate that 3,000 additional Border Patrol [officers] be sent to our border as well,” McCain said at a news conference Friday in downtown Phoenix, according to a report in the Arizona Republic.

“And that way, then the state of Arizona will not have to enact legislation which they have to do because of the federal government’s failure to carry out its responsibilities, which is to secure the borders.”

While I appreciate mcstain finally taking a stand on protecting our borders I can’t help but wonder how he reconciles his new calls for enforcement with his long-held beleif that we should make citizens of those sly enough to make it in.

Dementia is a good thing.

But we can’t trust you. Go home, John.

That’s all nice and good but I want to know specifically what their orders will be first.

Last time we sent troops down there they did construction and were under orders to retreat if threatened.

Last time we sent troops down there they did construction and were under orders to retreat if threatened.

But the time before that, we were pretty effective.

Wrong! This legislation (hopefully) will drive some of them southward... Just closing the boarder alone is not enough at this point.

McCain kicks Obama in the bum—then kisses the boo-boo AFTER he is re-elected.

The Dictator has taken away the rights of individual state Governors with THIS Executive Order

Prior to January 11, 2010 the president needed the consent of state governors to appoint or deploy members or units of state National Guard as federally recognized armed force members in active or inactive service.[5][6][7] On that date President Obama signed Executive Order 13528 creating the Council of Governors removing the responsibility of the National Guard from the specific state governors to the Council appointed by the President.

“Is this a SNL skit or something?”

LOLOLOL!!!!

I wish I’d thought of that. You’ve made an excellent point.

What would be horrifying is if this isn’t an act just to be reelected as Senator, that he has finally realized the truth.

People are dying on their own land here. Of course, they have been dying here at the hands of illegals for a long time. Most of that time McCain was championing their cause and calling us racists because we wanted it stopped.

Even here on FR when the trouble first started there were people who said we were exaggerating the problem. No, we weren't. There have been rapes, murders, beatings, drunk driving (hit and run more than you'll ever know). Children being molested, old women being raped and robbed. It goes on and on and on.

We are a patient people, but this goes too far and it's going to end no. No thanks to Johnnie Come Lately McCain.
