North Korea threatens nukes

Seoul - North Korea on Saturday warned it was prepared to use nuclear weapons if it was invaded by the US and South Korea.

The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) carried the remarks by the North's Joint Chief, General Ri Yong-Ho, during a national meeting on the eve of the birthday of the communist country's armed forces.

"The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK (North Korea) are fully ready to frustrate any provocation of the aggressors at a single blow," Ri said.

"They will mobilise all means including the nuclear deterrent... should the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet warmongers dare intrude into the inviolable sky, land and seas of the DPRK even 0.001mm," he said.

He added that "a grave situation is now prevailing on the Korean Peninsula" because of the neighbouring South and its ally the US, who he said wanted to start a war.

The harsh rhetoric comes as tensions between the two Koreas are high over the sinking of a South Korean warship in March near the disputed sea border in the Yellow Sea with a loss of 46 lives.

No need for N.K. to worry about us. Zer0 has already said he wouldn't retaliate with nukes.

Pffft.... what a sorry excuse we have for a president.

The US and SK already said no reprisals for the sinking of a warship and murder of 46 sailors.

What more do they want?

If one might suspect that the torpedo attack on the S Korean naval vessel was a TEST of a torpedo weapons system, who and what is the next test target?

I think the point is he is trying to provoke ROK or the US to do something. If that does not work, he may be crazy enough to say they did and I am now going to blow them off face of earth.

Someone needs to get into this other asshat’s head and tell him if he does and one US soldier is killed, his entire pile of crap will be reduced to a cinder. Unfortunately, with Obozo in charge, he would agree with the pipsqueak and say maybe we did invade.

No, the rhetoric long with the actions of the NoKos are getting increasingly aggressive and irresponsible, and as their economy slides even further into ruin (hard to believe that’s even possible, but it is...) they may well get even more aggressive to divert attention from what is really going on inside the country. There is no telling what they plan next. The problem with their methods of getting attention is that they feel compelled to up the ante every time their economy heads South again.

We think things are bad here?? The Greeks think they are being put upon?? Think things are bad in Haiti, Chile or in any of the other major disaster zones so far this year??

Imagine what the global recession has done to the people in North Korea. I think the Regime over there is holding on by their fingernails, and when they finally do go down in flames, I fear it will be literally “in flames”, and we will have the biggest humanitarian disaster on our hands in Asia since the last World War. We have little idea what the civilian casualty rate has been over the last fifty years, and whatever finally brings Kim down will no doubt have cost untold numbers of North Korean lives.

Kim will not go politely.

China doesn't want an strong US ally on its border but it seems for now at least, they are willing to take a chance and would rather see the S. Koreans have to pick up the pieces than have to pay the hundreds of BILLIONS of Dollars 20 to 25 years it will take to clean up after the Kims.

A war with the Norkos would cripple the South's manufacturing and exports giving an additional advantage to China just when China is starting to become less attractive as a place to build and run factories.
