Phoenix, Arizona (CNN) -- Hundreds of people gathered outside Arizona's Capitol building on Sunday in a largely peaceful protest against the state's tough new immigration law.
Chanting "Yes we can," waving American flags and holding signs reading "We have rights" and "We are human," demonstrators kept up a festive spirit as they denounced the bill signed Friday by Gov. Jan Brewer.
The new law requires police to determine whether a person is in the United States legally. It also requires immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there is reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally.

They may be human, but they’re still ILLEGALS.

They all loaded back onto their buses and headed back to Los Angeles this evening.
“They may be human, but theyre still ILLEGALS.”
Right, what does being human or Hispanic have to do with the ISSUE?
“They may be human, but theyre still ILLEGALS.”
All those rights afforded to them by Mexico or whatever country they came from. Very few here.
If CNN says hundreds, then there were two or three dozen.
Well...round ‘em up. Looks like a target-rich environment.
Target-rich environment — make every last one of them present an ID.
Several years ago Prince William County, VA decided to crack down in immigration. People were arrested, turned over to INS, Hispanics fled their underwater houses, businesses with a sizable Hispanic clientele failed, County income on property and business taxes plummeted, and that county had by far the highest foreclosure rate in the DC extended metropolitan area. A big mess all around. I don’t know if their officials have decided the whole thing was a mistake they shouldn’t have made, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the same things happen in Arizona.
Well duh. Even my dogs need a license. How hard is that?!
These were my thoughts as I stood with the 30 or so American Citizens surrounded by this Mob.
There were probably a couple thousand protesting on the illegals side and they were not a nice group. There were some nice folks there but the anger seething from this crowd was palpable.
Sure wish we would have asked for Freepers to help on this effort.

Mebbe we just shouldn’t enforce the laws, for the sake of the economy?
How can this law be illegal? It just asks LEO to enforce the existing immigration laws.
I just wish someone would have asked to see these protesters IDs.If there were illegals-maybe next time they would think twice about such in your face activities.
And that’s it in a nutshell.
Well said.
I am so tired of people here illegally screaming about their “Constitutional Rights”. What rights/ You ain’t a citizen, then the Constitution should not apply to you.
hundreds is not majority
thats where dems fail to understand this country.
its not about immigration...illegal entry to this country is not immigration ...time for all to tell the truth
Hard to tell from some of the criminal actions of so many here in the U.S. illegally.
Nice touch, waving American flags. Someone must have sent them the memo.
What’s the problem with coming here legally? It worked just fine for tens of millions of us.
