With little money to spend, Chuck DeVore puts his faith in his message

Republican Senate candidate Chuck DeVore is a darling of the "tea party" movement. He has been endorsed by influential conservatives, was fawned over by superstar commentator Glenn Beck on Fox News and has a deeply energized base of supporters.

These credentials, coupled with DeVore's single-minded focus on limited government and the Constitution, should make him a picture-perfect match to the political winds that are tilting Republican primaries across the nation.

But in California, none of this is paying dividends in the two areas that matter most: the polls and DeVore's campaign account.

"I don't know why Chuck DeVore has not done better. It is a mystery to me," said Larry Gerston, a political science professor at San Jose State University. "It does shock me that a guy like that, a good-looking guy with a good pedigree as far as the right wing's concerned, who says all the right things about abortion, healthcare, you name it, still he has not managed to move nearly as far as he needs to be considered in the swing of things."

...

The candidate saw a glimmer of hope in a recent poll that showed him in a statistical tie with Fiorina for second place. The Capitol Weekly poll, the first independent survey to use his approved ballot title "assemblyman/military reservist," showed Campbell leading with 31%, Fiorina with 17% and DeVore with 14%, a statistical tie once the margin of error is factored in. Some 37% are undecided.

Chuck DeVore for U.S. Senate 2010

I don't think I've been more ashamed than I am now of California Republicans. Pardon me those of you here who fight the fight but for the rest I can not understand you. You've had now years of horrid leftist policies from both Democrats and Republicans and you are going to give the primary to a guy that was most Recently the Finance Director for the state of California? I can only think you believe the economy of California and its government is running along swimmingly? Who supported funding abortions in China. Who opposed Prop 8 vocally but will not commit to repealing the Obamacare monstrosity. I suppose I'm most ashamed of conservative Media who just seems to not manage to coordinate anything. Scott Brown appears to have been a flash in the pan victory. Even Charles Djou though he is doing good is not getting nearly the treatment that Senator Brown did. Did we learn nothing of the power that we could leverage against the left? I suppose not. Were back to guarding our egos, licking our wounds and shaking our fists in the air.

I've been giving to DeVore regularly now but where are his supporters? His polling numbers have improved but Tom Campbell, the most liberal candidate running and a Sacramento insider appears still set to to take the torch?

We still have time till the primary. I'm going to do what I can to help but I'll not support Campbell. Boxer will defeat him because he will not be able run against her effectively because she will be able to run endless ads against him pointing out what a great job he and the Gov has done running the State of California into the ground.

Let the political king makers play I suppose, we'll have our tea and drink it too.

I saw my first DeVore bumper sticker the other day.

I heard him speak. He sounds good.

I pray for him. There appears to be a bit of fire lighting I just pray it isn’t too late. It makes me sick.

We can hope. I wonder if my fellow Californians will ever wake up.

They might I still have hope. DeVore’s support has increased. I just don’t understand it. People really must like being lied to and coddled. I’d have thought after 2008 and 2009 they’d have learned something.
