George W Bush To Admit 'Flaws and Mistakes' In Memoir George W Bush will admit his "flaws and mistakes" in a forthcoming memoir that will focus on 14 decisions made during his eight years in the White House.

Alex Spillius in Washington 26 Apr 2010

According to Crown Publishing, Decision Points, will offer "gripping, never-before-heard detail" about key events such as the disputed 2000 election, the September 11 attacks and the launch of the war on Iraq. Aided by a former White House speech-writer Chris Michel, Mr Bush also writes about his decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan and Iran, as well as discussing his battle with alcohol, his discovery of faith and family relationships.

A statement from Crown insisted that Mr Bush "writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his historic achievements". Since leaving the White House in January 2009, the former president has dedicated most of his time to the book, which will be released in the autumn. The cover features a photo of then-President Bush alone with his thoughts, standing in the Rose Garden colonnade of the White House, wearing a dark suit and holding a briefing book.

During his presidency, Mr Bush was known for his unapologetic approach, especially regarding the Iraq War, and for taking pride in his decisiveness. The book will attempt to justify decisions that may not have been popular at the time but which the former president and his aides have always believed would be vindicated in the longer term. He left office amid a collapsing economy and the lowest approval ratings any president has ever received since polling began.

His worst mistake was being nice and civil to the left

bttt I was going to say that but you beat me to it. I still think he was a good man.

If he admits he was wrong on immigration and perscription drugs, we could talk over a beer if he buys.

When will Dick Cheney’s book come out? That is the one I want to read. :)

Oh bullhockey. We have the Kenyan Commie for a whole bevy of reasons. Most notable was a complicit media that never vetted the clown. Second was a Republican candidate who was a major league pussy. Third was a weary public, who rightfully didn’t see a Republican party (Bush OR the Congress) fighting back.

Bush had his problems and mistakes—I think he should’ve hit back—but I can’t lay all of Hussein’s regime at HIS feet.

I really don’t want to hear about George Bush for a long, long time. Go back to Texas and rest. Give conservatives some time to undo the extensive damage you did to limited government.

“Worst mistake was not sacking Paulson and, like Bush pere, not paying enough attention to the domestic economy that gave us the current curse.”

I agree...Paulson changed the TARP goals unilaterally...Bush was already FIGMO and gave the OK to release the balance of the funds, which I don’t think he should have done, he should have forced Zero to own it all...which I think was the REAL mistake made...W was absolutely blindsided by Paulson and Geithner, which was bad, but not as bad as some make it.

We have that would-be communist dictator as president now because of George Bush and his all of his flaws.

That's a big stretch! Bush didn't nominate McCain!...who, incidently, bowed more to Obama during the campaign than Obama has bowed to foreign leaders.

Bush was not McCain's campaign manager and that sorry campaign had more to do with the election of BO than Bush.

It was because of uneducated, uninformed folks who fell for the lies of the Onama administration. They were told over and over that all the problems in their lives resulted from George Bush’s presidency and that Obama would give them this grand utopia where all their problems would be solved and they would be free from worry. They failed to realize that (a) a lot of their problems were the result of their own irresponsibility; (b) there is no such thing as utopia; and (c) all those promises made by Obama would come to fruition at the cost of their freedom.

It will be years before we find out just how much 9/11 changed the entire course of his Presidency. It would not surprise me in the least that the Dems. used it as a tool to get their way!

We will know the truth and I think that it will show that the Dems were ruthless and used that horrific attack against all of us!

He was, wasn’t he? He always looks potted, too...

While minding my own business this evening I was called by the Quinnipiac Poll. They asked a number of questions about politics and candidates past and present.

One question stuck out, to wit: Did I think Obama's performance as president so far was better than, as good as, or worse than, that of President Bush. I will be interested to see the outcome of that question.

Sorry, folks, even with all his flaws, I would still rather have GB as my President than that would-be communist dictator we have now.

Problem is that if we hadn't had GW, we probably would never have heard of Obama.

Both Bush presidents caused us to end up with Democrate presidents!

Bush 41 sold out Reagan’s policies...

Bush 43 continued the tear down of Reagan’s conservative policies!

Given history, Bush may have lurched much further left much earlier than transpired.

Thanks to screaming (insane) Al Gore and the sore loser Democrats, Bush was not able to transition properly. And the Clinton Whitehouse did him no favors.

He was barely beginning to get good and settled when 9/11 happened.

Bush’s first 4 years were all dominated by the war.

Had there been no 9/11, and Bush had governed as he did the 2nd four years, he might not have won the primary.

I defended Bush tooth and nail for 6 years. His last 2 years, he was nothing more than a liberal.

Clinton chose to fight the media every day. He stayed up late plotting strategy, lost discipine, and boosted ratings as people waiting breathlessly every day to play the ping-pong game and see what the other side's "rebuttal" would be.

Bush went to bed early, said what needed to be said and refused to be baited. He was able to fight the war on terror without being distracted and the MSM's ratings went WAY down because there was much less ping-pong.

Hmmmm...
