Did your General mention all the pictures that have to be taken, the forms that have to be completed, the notices that you have to distribute and have signed, the bio-hazard coveralls and respirators that have to be used, the hepa vacuums?

No, he certainly did not. I'm not advocating for the new rules, just sharing what somebody in the business told me. Obviously, since I've hired somebody to do the work, I'm not in the renovation business myself; I can only rely on what I've been told by those who are.

I followed your link to the article, and from there I followed a link to the EPA-produced (at great taxpayer expense, no doubt) "Renovate Right" PDF brochure.

The thing that really caught my attention about the brochure are the instances of misspelling of the word "lead" in captions for at least two of the illustrations. It was spelled "led".

Somebody working in "editing" at EPA must be a childhood victim of lead-based paint in his/her home.

God, Protect us from our protectors.

You are correct. So why do HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical contractors have to be certified?

SO THE GOVERNMENT CAN CONFISCATE MORE OF OUR MONEY!

I was considering having my windows replaced this year. I might end up just contracting to have the windows installed and do the removal myself so the contractor will come in the morning to see seven big holes in the wall ready for new windows where he won't have to disturb any possible lead. Second possiblity is to just scrape/sand blast off the paint and have him deal with bare wood window frames. Also with the 20 sq ft rule, since the windows are only painted on the outside I might just measure the painted area and see how many windows I can have replaced at a time. Let's see, about 4 inches wide by about 240 inches around each window = under 7 square feet per window. Maybe do one job of three windows in the morning and three as a separate contract in the afternoon.

You won’t get a loan to buy the used home unless the government loan agency( or it’s fake private agent) has paperwork certifying the new architectural white walls, and ceiling white/blue ceilings were done by a ‘certified’ contractor with a job number/check/location

This is a tax collection scheme, union support, EPA fetherbedding racket. ( Nothing happens unless someone, somewhere benefits. Obey your overlords.)

What about apartment complexes built before 1978? Do I have to have certified maintenance workers to rehab our apartments that were built prior to 1978?

Another example of government run amok. P*ss on you, EPA. I REFUSE to allow you to tell me what to do. I REFUSE to obey.

Whatcha gonna do about it?

I got my cert. last month. What a complete pain in the arse! A gigantic waste of time and materials. We will all be using paper bags at the market soon since all available plastic will be strewn all over people’s houses to catch a grain a dust.

Karl,
Sounds like you have old wood windows. Have you looked into having them restored? Much cheaper than replacement and your U value will be 90% of a new window except you can realize your savings in under 5 years compared to 30 years for new.

About two weeks before the 22nd I had a contractor demo upper and lower kitchen cabinets. Cost $250.00 including haul away. After the 22nd it would have been $3000.00. Timing is everything.
Having spent many years in the paint business, was well aware of the lead situation, but did not know about this latest ripoff. Back in ‘78 it was a bogus crisis, once again led by our beloved Ted Kennedy.

Absolutely, no body is safe. And, if they do work in multi-family units, all the tenants have to SIGN a form saying that they were notified, but, if they won’t sign you can mark a box on the form saying they wouldn’t sign. Stupid, I know.
