Jeb Bush carries the Bush political torch

Talk privately to just about any leading Republican about the 2012 presidential race, and you’ll often hear a sentence that starts with: “If his last name were ...”

They’re talking about the former two-term governor of one of America’s largest states who is a reformer, a policy wonk and a savvy pol who left office on good terms — and whose last name happens to be Bush.

Were he not the brother of a recently departed and unpopular president, there is little doubt that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush would be an obvious, and formidable, White House prospect for the GOP.

Yet even with the family baggage, many Republicans remain convinced Bush could be a strong contender.

He is no ball of fire as a campaigner. If he runs against Palin, her energy level will make him look old as well.

You betcha!

The third time is the charm. Let’s give Jeb Bush on last chance . let’s see what he can do.

If Jeb is carrying the torch he’s not carrying it far.

I've never skipped a Presidential vote in 34 years of voting, but if Jeb runs, I'm staying home. I've had my fill of big government republicans.

If the RNC puts him up there, I guess it's still "Their Turn". Just as it was with John "You don't have to worry about electing my opponent, he's a nice guy" McCain.

Yea. The first two didn’t quite get the job done. Jeb ought to be able to finish us off.

Roger that, he wimped out on the lady. I lost any respect for him right there. He could have made a difference, but he turned out to be a coward.

I liked Jeb Bush. I think he would have made a better President than his older brother. He was a good governor of Florida.

But.

No more amnesty.

No more Bushes.

No more RINOs.

Jeb is a nice guy, but we don’t need him running the country.

BTW, the late Bill Loeb of the Manchester Union-Leader coined a term for GHW Bush and his ilk which also applies to Romney, Jeb and the rest of the GOP elites. Loeb called Bush41 a "clean-fingernails" Republican.

Perfect description.

Jeb is married to a Latina. He and his siblings were practically raised by the Bushes Mexican housekeeper. They have a history that prevents their understanding of the con side in the immigration issue.

There aren’t any journalists like Bill Loeb now. The closest to him as far as I can see is Mark Levin.

I always thought that although Reagan may have come to like him as Veep, he never really respected him as an adversary, perhaps because he crumbled so badly at Nashua.

Does Craig Shirley provide any insight? I think Reagan would have naturally preferred Palin just because their personalities seem so similar.

Jeb had a chance to redeem himself. All he had to do was articulate why Arizona is right to do what its doing and articulate it effectively.

He couldn’t do it because he isn’t the right one to lead this country. He’s not made of the right stuff.

This is actually a pretty good litmus test. If you understand sovereignty, thats a pretty good first step. If you don’t understand it, and why it has to be defended, then thats a pretty easy “fail”.
