Dating Barney Fife doesn’t insulate you from crime. Nor does living in the the town that was the template for the for fictional hamlet of Mayberry.

Betty Lynn, who played the bumbling deputy’s sweetheart on “The Andy Griffith Show” in the 1960s, was sitting outside a Lowes Foods store after shopping and getting money out to pay for a cab home Sunday when a man snatched her wallet with about $130 in it and ran off.

Andy and Opie are big leftists in real life. I always thought Floyd and Howard were “friends of Dorothy.”

One of the funniest episodes I ever watched was when
Barney was dating Thelma and she started playing with his
hair and it was soooo long and I guess he had put something
on it so when she played with it it stood up straight
on his head and he looked like some rad punk.

cops get their man

Shirley Walter Guynn, 45, of nearby Cana, Va., was being held Thursday in Surry County Jail

Except he was a she? Take a walk on the wild side.

The cops caught the perp and recovered $45 of the money. The rest may have floated down the river into which the crud jumped, attempting to escape.

Interesting that Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) and Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) moved to Mayberry-like towns that often were referred to in the series -- Mount Airy & Siler City, respectively -- and are/were reclusive spinsters.

Years ago, I can't remember where it was, Illinois or Indiana I think; We were in a metropolitan civic center that had two or three theaters. We were performing in one, and during a break we saw a poster that said Don Knotts was appearing in another one.

'Cool!', we said, and tried to get in to check it out for a while, but they wouldn't let us in.

Sadly, Andy endorsed John Edwards when the skunk made his run for the Senate.

I live in NC. Andy is a big leftie, and according to the locals in Manteo, a big a-hole.

Andy Griffith is a lot more like his character, Lonesome Rhodes, in “A Face In The Crowd” than Sheriff Andy Taylor.

Unfortunately, you are correct. Andy pretty much is in the tank for the lefties. We still love him in NC, though. Face in the Crowd was a great movie, yet very dark and pointed. BTW, you have not lived till you try the pork chop sandwich at the Snappy Lunch in Mt. Airy. It’s like a hot dog on steroids.

What REALLY surprised me was that Barney Fife/Don Knotts was quite the ladies man - married 5 times. I had always thought he was light in the loafers, but it wasn’t so.
