PHOENIX (AP) - Singer Linda Ronstadt is lending her voice to a lawsuit by Latino groups challenging Arizona's new law that cracks down on illegal immigration.

Ronstadt's family has deep roots here and are quite remarkable. But she seems to emphasize her Mexican roots rather than her German ones, which is where most of the accomplishments came from.

She came back here to live for a while before she went back to SF to raise her kids in a gay neighborhood, because she thought Tucson was "too conservative".

Activism for illegals is not new for her.

Didn't she get fired in Las Vegas a few years ago for refusing to sing the National Anthem or something like that...it was something unpatriotic.

Well, singing has nothing to do with poltical clout, except to superficial democrats.

It’s funny how she didn’t discover her Mexican roots until she stopped being popular and a few musical imports from Mexico started.

Linda Ronstadt says, "You're No Good" to Anti- Illegal Immigration Law

I liked Ronstadt's version of that song, but I didn't know until recently that it was largely identical to Betty Everett's 1963 version:

...the Tucson native said, "Mexican-Americans are not going to take this lying down."

The Mexican-Americans in MY family are FOR this legislation and Anti-illegal aliens. They came here legally and went through the immigration system like they were supposed to do.

Ronstadt is correct however that illegals will not take this lying down. They will continue to stand upright and walk through our porous borders as if there were no borders at all until and unless these lawbreakers are stopped.

A Warren Zevon song she covered on her Blue Bayou album before becoming fat and crazy, a while back calling Michael Moore a “Minuteman and American hero”:

Carmelita
I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I’m there with her in Ensenada
And I’m here in Echo Park

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I’m sinking down
And I’m all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

Well, I’m sittin’ here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won’t give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check

Repeat chorus

Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I’m sinking down
And I’m all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I’m sinking down
And I’m all strung out on heroin

Give us your opinion, Linda.

One is either a Mexican or an American. You can’t be both. That goes for any nationality. And don’t let my screen name fool you. It’s just a moniker from an old girlfriend. Actually I like to change. Can anyone tell how I could do that, that is if to do so isn’t complicated.

Actually, I saw Linda Ronstadt perform with Leo Kottke as her headliner in 1974 at the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena; so I know perfectly well who she is, or at any rate, who she was. It was a decent concert, punctuated by one cringe-inducing moment: during a pause in the set-list, folks were screaming requests and somebody yelled out "Whipping Post!" Linda cluelessly deadpanned, "somebody told me that was an Allman Brothers song... but I've never heard of it, and I'm an Allman Brothers freak." The silence at that bit of idiocy was palpable.

I saw her on CNN tonight. She looks more like Linda Ellerby now.

yeah, I liked Linda’s singing at the time too....Blue Bayou is still somewhat haunting.....some down the line she lost it.....maybe because of moonbeam’s influence? Can’t say but seems to be a factor..... I think that Tucson is a somewhat liberal town and that may explain linda better....

I’d say something about her losing her good looks, but stones and glass houses don’t mix.....lololololol
