Gibbs gives it to Fox reporter

As a Fox reporter brings up criticism likening the administration's response to [the Gulf oil spill] to President Bush's reaction to Hurricane Katrina, Gibbs launches into a tirade on Fox News for bringing former FEMA Director Michael Brown on the air to discuss the accusation that the Obama White House purposefully leaked the oil to walk back environmental and offshore drilling policies.

"You should call headquarters, my friend," Gibbs says to the Fox reporter, asking him to talk with the person who decides which guests to book. "Your network put on the former FEMA director to make an accusation that the well had been purposely set off in order to change an offshore drilling decision." (4:39 p.m.)

Of course they weren’t ‘conspiracy theories’ in MSM when the left said Pres. Bush and 9/11 as an inside job.

Oil Spill Springs a Gusher of Conspiracy Theories

It didn’t take long after news of the Gulf Coast oil rig explosion broke before the far right began floating conspiracy theories.

Leading off was Rush Limbaugh, who speculated that environmentalists could have set off the April 20 explosion to derail an energy bill before Congress that would include offshore drilling:

“Now, lest we forget, ladies and gentlemen, the carbon tax bill, cap and trade that was scheduled to be announced on Earth Day. I remember that. And then it was postponed for a couple of days later after Earth Day, and then, of course, immigration has now moved in front of it. But this bill, the cap-and-trade bill, was strongly criticized by hard-core environmentalist wackos because it supposedly allowed more offshore drilling and nuclear plants, nuclear plant investment. So, since they’re sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they’re sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig? I’m just noting the timing here.”

Noting the timing, but offering no evidence — though that hasn’t stopped others from picking up on the Monkey Wrench Gang meme. On Monday, Dana Perino, former press secretary for President George W. Bush, appeared on “Fox and Friends” and asked, “Was this deliberate?”

Meanwhile, former FEMA head Michael Brown, who earned infamy for his role in the Bush administration’s relief effort after Hurricane Katrina, has accused President Barack Obama of using the spill to galvanize the country against offshore drilling. “This is exactly what they want, because now he can pander to the environmentalists and say, ‘I’m gonna shut it down because it’s too dangerous,’ “ Brown said. “This president has never supported Big Oil, he’s never supported offshore drilling and now he has an excuse to shut it back down.”

Other media figures have taken to the airwaves to scold Limbaugh and his fellow conspiracy-theory peddlers. “What a ridiculous comment to make,” said MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. “We’re talking about the worst environmental disaster in several years, where a whole part of our world we live in could be destroyed for years and years. And here’s this blowhard who says it might be sabotage by the environmentalists who care more about the habitat than anybody.”

“Politico has been dropping a lot of hints lately that there is chaos and panic inside this WH.”

People makes mistakes when they are in a panic mode. I wonder if oil rig sabotage is one of their mistakes? It sure struck a raw nerve when it was so suggested.

Remember Greenpeace? What ever happened to them?
They used to float a little raft alongside a big tanker and try to blow it up.

They caused a lot of trouble in the past.

Look at the violence Peta has done.
These ecoterrorists are apt to do anything to stop us from finding new oil or clean coal.

Yes, just thought you would be interested in this since there is so much speculation. This interview is the only thing I’ve heard from a guy who was actually there and can say what happened. If you read the comments at the site, it seems that the workers have all been slapped with injunctions to keep quiet.

Man, I hate to move into this territory, but (Devil’s Advocate here) could the worker have mistaken the “gas bubble” for a fire ball coming up from below?

Thing happened the day before Earth Day, right?

Really, major oil wells are logical a major strategic target for any military to take out either overly or covertly...

Most any of the world military special forces and ex SF independent mercenary would have plans and ability to do it..ever ex oil rig service diver could do it.

How hard to take out and off shore rig?...Say two diver, at night, say 100 feet below the water..

Find the well shaft going down from the rig to the well head on the bottom...

loop a charge around the well shaft and let the charge slowly sink to the bottom with well shaft being the guide...

hydraulic pressure trigger set to around bottom pressure...

say 30 min to let the charge slowly sink to the bottom as you go bye bye...

Then "bang"...off shore oil drilling is dead in the US

Making many happy, some very rich and a few, very very very powerful people in the world to dictate oil supply

And who going to find any evidents at that deep with all that debris from above covering it up...with people in charge that really don't want to find it

“It wasn’t sabotage. Here’s a radio interview “

Yea, I heard the interview. But it still stinks. These days nothing is as it seems.

I had no idea someone put the theory out that Obama might have intentionally caused the oil leak so they wouldn’t have to do offshore drilling (which is exactly the way to get out of it as his base would be angry about it and the right will hear “sorry, you see what happened, what can I do??”), thanks for bringing it to more people’s attention Bagdhad Gibbs.

It is certainly possible that this was an unfortunate industrial accident. But, with Marxists, I am unwilling to completely discount without hard evidence, that they did it. These demonRATS are willing to ruin the entire US economy and way of life - what’s the big deal about blowing up a rig to them?

Just like I’m still unconvinced that TWA 800 was an accident - maybe it was, but the evidence is less than completely convincing.

Not a conspiracy type of guy - I just do not believe anything the State Run Media says without lots of hard evidence. I just want to see facts before I decide what I think happened. If the facts are never shared, then I’ll never have a basis to understand what really happened.

Why is gibbs so sensitive about this? Why doesn’t he wave it off like the birth certificate?

Because the public at large is asking questions about Obama's response to the oil rig disaster.

Unfortunately, the White House was able to marginalize the birthers and smear them as nuts. They can't do that with this with the oil slick. A great deal of the public is asking why the explosion happen and why didn't the Obama administration do something about the oil slick sooner.

The adminstration doesn't have good answers for these questions, hence Gibbs annoyance with the Fox reporter.
