I’m thinking it just might be bad reporting. Yeah, I know, like there is any other type. That particular tracking system might have been around before hand. I know Interpol uses something similar.

That is correct, the DHS was formed by Bush shortly after 911.

You were saying ...

And yet he was still granted citizenship?…

In looking over his history, I'm not sure how you could tell something was up. And it might not have been when he first got here.

He started here in the United States when he was 19 years old and a student. He came from a prominent family who obviously had money, so bringing in $80,000 in that time period, expecially when you look at school "bills" during that time (part on aid and part from parents, it appears), that wouldn't be something "out of line".

Remember, also that he put some money down on a house, too, even though it just recently went into foreclosure. So, again, it wouldn't be unusual for someone who has been to school (university), had to pay for part of it, graduated, got a job, got married, had two kids, bought a home -- and since coming from a prominent family over there, brought in about $80,000 during that time (from outside the country, from his prominent family).

He married a girl who was an American citizen. And they did have two kids. Her parents lived in (I think) Colorado. She and the kids are now over in Pakistan, but while they were here, you were looking at someone who went to university, graduated, got a job, got married, had two kids, bought a house ... etc...

These things (I think) are going to be more difficult to tell ahead of time, because I think you're going to find many who change the course of what they're doing (their minds change in the meantime) over the course of several years. They may actually start out pretty good, but something happens and they get twisted by the Islamic worldview and thinking ... and all of a sudden -- they "take a course change" in their life.

Either that's what this guy did -- or else -- he was "deep undercover" since he was 19 years old and a student and did everything "all right" (just like a normal person, in other words) and showed no signs of trouble until just recently.

The only other thing you could say is that you don't want "anyone" coming into the country from Pakistan (if that's a "criteria" you want to use) -- but I don't think that's going to fly ... :-) ...

There was no DHS watch list from 1999-2001.

You were saying ...

What's insane is he got citizenship three months after Obama took office.

When you look at him and his history, it's not so insane, actually. I mean, he was here since he was a student and 19 years old. He graduated with a degree, he got a job, he married an American citizen, he had two kids, he bought a house...

Now, just running over just those details alone (and if he didn't do this terrorist act) -- you would think he was a great citizen and an example of the "success story" that America can produce.

Again, student, graduated, job, married, two kids, bought house ... sounds great right there.

If you were going by that, and he didn't commit the terrorist act and before things started "going south" for him (a little while back) -- you would think this guy was just great -- aside from being from Pakistan (if that would be a "problem" ... I don't know).

Anyway, it might not be as easy to tell ahead of time as you might think.

TECS is a major law enforcement computer system that allows its approximately 120,000 users from 20 federal agencies to share information.

More or less.

Don’t remember for sure but DHS may have gobbled up some early agencies. I suspect our government has been tracking money coming into the country for quite a while. The drug war.

He was on the watchlist for some reason.

And apparently not watched too well.

I don’t understand - Do Barry and his incompetent Czars use the Homeland Security list of suspects as a basis for handing out green cards? I was reading that this guy became a citizen only last year.

You were saying ...

He was on the watchlist for some reason.

Cash coming into the country, I would guess... :-)

But, being "on" a watchlist is one thing, and it's not someone who is guilty of something. Rather, I think you'll find that there are certain "parameters" that they have for people getting on the watchlist that are "keys" to possible terrorism.

Cash would be one of those keys, I would say. That much should be obvious. There may be something else that I don't know about, but just being on a watchlist isn't something that is going to make a person guilty of something. It's just that -- something to watch...

Again, for this guy ... if you did "watch" you would have found him to be a student from 19 years old, graduating, getting a job, getting married, having two kids, buying a house ...

So, you've got a guy on a "watchlist" and he's been in the country for about 12 years (I think that's how long it is) and he also has applied to become an American citizen (something that would be "normal" under the consideration that you're married to an American citizen and your two kids are American citizens, and you've got a job and you've bought a house).

What I'm pointing out here is if someone looks at someone "ahead of time" and does so for 12 years and you see all that this guy did during those 12 years -- you don't have much to go on to predict terrorism.

I'm pointing out that detecting these things with the Muslims we have in this country now ... is going to be a whole lot more difficult than some raghead, coming over, without being able to talk English with a pile of money and no connections and no wife and no kids and no job and so on...

Nowadays, you're going to find more and more -- this kind of thing to be seemingly "successful types" (or average "Joes", so to speak) and they're not going to "stand out" ahead of time.

If he was on the list; why wasn’t he detained?

Read carefully. It says he was on a "lookout list" (not the "no-fly" list) from 1999 to 2008 -- we're in 2010 now. Reading between the lines, I have a feeling his removal from the list was related to his naturalization as a US citizen which occurred in April 2009, and was presumably approved at least a short time prior to that.

This is idiotic. Cash is legal, and being wealthy shouldn’t make you ineligible for citizenship.

With the government (and we're talking about several administrations, from this one and back) -- "cash" equals either (1) terrorist or (2) illegal drug activity or (3) criminal activity.

That's why someone who comes into the country with "cash" (like that) is going to be on a watchlist ... :-)

But with this guy (the "bomber") his history also showed good reasons for the cash (university bills and buying a home), and he came from a prominent family, plus he married a U.S. citizen, he did graduate from the university, and he did get a job and he had two kids and he bought a home, and he wanted to become a naturalized citizen (and he did).
