Duke Lacrosse Team: Just The Facts, Please
Bleacher Report ^ | May 5, 2010 | R. B. Parrish

Posted on 05/07/2010 1:44:15 PM PDT by CondorFlight

Since the current tragedy at the University of Virginia, the media has frequently brought up the Duke lacrosse case, as though the latter had some kind of relevance to the former. Because such associations are likely to be made in the future, let’s get a few facts straight:

The Duke lacrosse players did not commit a crime in Durham; they were the victims of a crime (several crimes in fact: false accusations, and much more).

Their community rushed to judge them, including preachers, newspapers, politicians, and assumed whatever “truths” were most convenient for their own agendas. The comparisons with Scottsboro are eerie, the sort of perfect parallels which could only occur if we humans really are all alike under the skin, regardless of where and when we live.

Lacrosse is targeted by the diversity racists for one reason: White males.

The left and the drive by media certainly painted the team as the worst group of kids to ever be spawned, when if fact they were good kids. The case was perfect for the DBM and the ever present Justice Brothers.

None of this would have happened had they been other than white.

If you will reread my post you will see that I did not say the Duke players deserved to have their lives ruined. Other the whacked-out stripper and her anti-white friends, who has said that?

All I said was that if you get drunk and hire strippers, you are looking for trouble. Or if you hang out with kids who do. Bad lifestyle choice, my dear.

None of the three players were drunk.

Do you still think they deserve to be punished because they were there?

“IMHO just stalling tactics”

As I understand, one key witness already has committed suicide, so the stalling tactic has “worked” in that regard. The chief problem, which plaintiffs recognize, is that Nifong may not have any assets from which to recover any damages awarded etc.

“The players should be suing Nifong, the police department, the DA’s office, the SCHOOL (Duke) and ALL the teachers who took out a full-page ad denouncing them”

The school did settle with them for an undisclosed amount. Don’t know why they didn’t go after the Duke 88. It may have been because their letter smeared the entire team rather than the accused players by name, or that lawyers felt that it would be too hard to prove libel given that so much of it was implied rather than stated outright. Unfortunately, being a member of the Duke 88 hasn’t appeared to have tarnished any academic careers. http://americanpowerblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/paula-mcclain-and-duke-88.html

BTW, are you related to Coach K? :-)

“If the lacrosse players were POOR he would have gotten away with it too...”

I concur he likely would have gotten away with it with students unable to afford good legal defense. But as another poster noted, what gave this smear such power and legs was the claim that “rich white boys” had done this to a “poor black girl” etc. The masses enjoy toppling the “high and mighty” so taking on “poor white boys” wouldn’t have had nearly the same resonance.

A Duke University report mentions your hero, captain Evans, who rented the house of sin. You said he virtuously did not have three beers that day -—

From the report — “Bad alcohol-related behavior seems to be reinforced rather than mitigated by the group. Responsible senior leadership on the part of team captains [Evans] seems to have been too often missing. Despite repeated and stern warnings from their coach and his imposition of significant punishments for unacceptable behavior, this behavior continued.”

“the house of sin”

Well, if that’s a “house of sin”, what do you call the house rented by a black frat for an off-campus party in January, 2007 (while the Duke case was still going on), at which black athletes were present; and at which a white Duke student was dragged into the bathroom and raped (by a non-student)?

(An actual crime occurred there.)

Police found drugs and a gun at the house (no guns or drugs at the Buchanan st. house).

Which coaches were fired over this? Which teams had their seasons cancelled? When did Brodhead say, “Whatever they did was bad enough?” about this case?

While on bond—1/8 of the bond originally fixed for the lacrosse players—the rapist raped yet another woman. No wanted posters were issued for him and he remained at large for months.

Finally he agreed to a plea bargain which would get him a possibility of a little over two years plus time served for
committing two rapes.

That’s the difference in treatment between being a white Duke student accused of a crime in which DNA proves your innocence even before you’re arrested; and being accused of the same crime when you are poor and black.

The thugs and rapists deserve far more punishment and many more years in jail than they apparently got. I totally agree with you. I loathe affirmative action and political correctness and the coddling of criminals simply because they are the proper color.

I don’t think the Duke students deserve the national humiliation of being falsely accused of assault and rape. But when you get drunk and invite into your home strangers/criminals, you are setting yourself up for some kind of trouble.

Welcome to the real world.

The true scandal in all of this was that the press never once investigated the real criminals...the Durham Police, the DA staffers, and the underbelly of Durham. The common thread is still there. Someone still needs to investigate it.
