India warns US against military aid to Pakistan

India's defence minister cautioned the United States on Friday against military supplies to rival Pakistan, saying the hardware could be diverted to target India.

The warning came after the US in March said it would deliver unarmed drones to Pakistan and less than a month after it unveiled plans to transfer 600 million dollars to Islamabad to pay for anti-militant operations.

A. K. Antony told reporters in New Delhi that India's concerns had been conveyed to Washington.

"Even though the US is giving equipment to Pakistan to fight against the Taliban, we feel there is every possibility of (Pakistan) diverting most of them to the Indian borders," Antony said.

"We have already conveyed our concerns about transfer of equipment to Pakistan. We told the US that they have to be careful about that," the Indian defence minister added.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi moved quickly to ease India's fears, saying the hardware would be used only against militants, who have been blamed for bomb attacks killing more than 3,300 people in his country.

"The military equipment that we are getting from the United States should not worry India, because it is meant for counter-terrorism and to enhance our capacity to fight terrorist networks," he told reporters in Lahore.

"They (India) should not be afraid of this because it will be used against terrorist networks who have made this region unsafe."

Pakistan, Washington's frontline ally in its battle against militancy, has domestically produced surveillance drones but it told the United States in March that it wanted sophisticated US-made aircraft

India's been complaining about US arms supplies to Pakistan for decades, and who can blame them. Pakistan's only real use for it's US-supplied arms is to wage war against India. We've provided billions in military aid to an Islamic pest-hole so they can attack a friendly democracy - some things about our State Department and foreign policy defy common sense.

I saw a saw a video of them firing artillery over a mountain at each other. Neither one could see each other. The shells were hitting empty fields 95% of the time.

They were shooting blind.

With these drones, they will have the ability to improve their aim against India’s Army significantly.

I remember from the video, that this is one of the most strategic locations any push into India. Drones may be the secret ingredent they need to go to war again.

Drones are not needed for counter-battery fire. I'd be surprised if the Pakis don't have a few of these already.

Besides, aren't they getting the bulk of their weapons from the Chinese?

The weapons and $$ the US gave to Pockistan have been consistently diverted to terrorists — either terrorists fighting India or terrorists fighting the US, or fighting BOTH

Reminds me of something in years past, I was talking to a company salesman home from the field. But he was going back out, heading for what he called “Dinner with Zia”, a regular affair. We were selling artillery computer systems to him. Then he was heading to India, pushing hospital systems...

The west has been playing both sides against the middle for a generation. But with Obama in place, islam is finally in complete control.

They didn’t at the time, it was strictly an artillery duel.

They shoot “blind” on purpose.

There are plenty of options for either side to target the other with accuracy, if they wished to do so, ranging from spy satellites to high altitude aircraft.

The video I saw was when they didn’t have this, it was before they even had nukes.

This is when they were openly shooting each other on sight.

Coddling Pakistan has resulted in everything from Afghanistan spinning out of control after the Soviets left, Pakistan forming the Taliban, to 9-11, to the battles the US is forced to wage, in the same country, and Pakistan, to this day.

Last week’s NY bomber was a trainee of the Jaish-e-Muhammad, famous among other things, for pushing terrorists into Kashmir, in India.

The US is paying for it all, in blood.

They have been doing this cross-border shelling for decades.

The purpose is to prevent the other side from identifying places for building shelters and bunkers.

The Line of Control is a de-facto border, not recognised by either side.
