The number of children born outside marriage in the United States has increased dramatically to four out of ten of all births. Figures show that 41 per cent of children born in 2008 did not have married parents - up from 28 per cent in 1990.

“Marraige is penalized in America, financially anyway”

And Obamacare further penalizes married couples.

and a property requirement ;-)

Universal sufferage is a popular dogma, but it is also a mistake.

Why would any sane male get married? To volunteer to take a ride on the Titanic? Yes, you might come out of alive, but the odds are that you're screwed royally.

I'm in my mid 30’s and single. Out of all my married friends 1 of them is happy, the others are miserable. And I've heard the “I can't afford to get divorced” line several times. So, you have people living in misery with children to take care of.

Just last month, one friend of a friend got divorced after 15 years (and 1 child) because he found the wife screwing some guy from Facebook.

The one friend who is very happily married is from South America originally (as is his wife). Is this a positive factor? You betcha!

Men have to be crazy to get married in this country unless they have a prenup, wealthy wife, and a secret stash of cash and weapons no omne knows about.

You can blame the court system and the govt for this.

I tink you probably know, but the rate is rising among groups traditionally less given to bastardy.

That should be relatively easy to find on the Internet.

"turn all of this around if we stopped giving our children to the liberal-controlled government schools to be corrupted."

Sadly, for MOST families, the prospect of doing that is limited by the work-to-pay-taxes Mom's who have to supplement the family income, and can't afford to stay home anymore.

This was also fostered with the intentional Women's Liberation move to get mothers to think income-producing jobs was attractive to show "worth", as opposed to serving the role of a traditional stay-at-home-Mom....and here we are in this mess today.

When you consider abortions, a full 48% of all pregnancies in the United States now occur to women who are not married. I expect that before long, pregnancies to married women will become the minority situation for the first time in our history.

America was a great idea, but it does appear that it may be pretty much over.

“...a secret stash of cash and weapons no one knows about.”

Post of the day! A couple of my Korean War buddies have been/were doing this for decades, even though they got married before TSHTF so to speak. If I ever went insane and got married, I would do the same exact thing.

Do you realize that a very large percentage of homeschool families get by on less than the median income? The problem is in part excessive materialism.

People also need to remember that culture is like markets - change occurs at the margin. Everyone doesn’t have to homeschool, but if another 30% took their children out of government reeducation camps, the reign of the liberals would be well on the way to being over.

...I think you’re right about that and I think somebody famous wrote about why it was needed...maybe Thomas Jefferson.

It's not just the blacks churning out the illegitimate children. There are a lot of white shacker-uppers having kids out of wedlock.

Oh, for the days of shame, which served a valuable function in society.

It's good to get the order right: First comes love, then comes marriage, THEN comes the baby in the baby carriage.

Exactly! The laws are designed to make it financially easier for people to remain unmarried. There is no societal stigma attached to unmarried partners or unmarried parents. So why would anyone do it other than religious beliefs?

Oh yeah, if only we had sex education in the schools!

And free birth control.

And abortion on demand, also free.

Yes, it would then be a perfect world.

But wait! All those wonderful ideas are here and things aren’t perfect? Who woulda thought?

“And religion isn’t strong enough to override that.”

A discarded religion, perhaps, but what of Islam? It remains unapologetically ancient in its professed mores and is impervious to the kind of “reform” Christianity has been put through by the crackpot left in its ranks. When the bow breaks, might Islam present itself as the way to return to societal sanity? It is deceptive in its appearance of holding to a traditional form of healthy society (pro marriage, family, against abortion), while being full of the dead men’s bones of dead religion (they are anti-Christ and, therefore really of the devil).

A cure worse than the disease, but still possibly appealing to a lost, godless generation.

As soon as children come into the picture women get 100% of the power in the relationship. With or without marriage. Why get married? A woman gets to have a baby, get to be supported by the man, and never have to put up with the snoring or any manly annoyances.

As things deteriorate into chaos, Islam is going to look pretty good to a lot of wretched people.
