I at least hope he was one of the "GET IN THE HOLE!" a-holes. They need to be tazed as soon as they say "GET IN.... zaaaap!"

You volunteer to tackle the guy then and why wrestling with him find he has uncapped needles in his pocket that poked you during the struggle.

You go home and tell your wife you need to get aids tested.

Some of the people on this thread think we are living in the 40s

I don't think I'm living in the 40's I just want to live in America again.

Perhaps there should have been tasers at the game I went to last Sunday.
Sheffield Wednesday lost and are now relegated. Twice, Wednesday fans invaded the pitch, kicking and punching the opposing players as they ran for the safety of the tunnel. Some idiots were chanting “kill em, kill em”. If half a dozen of them had got shocks then the pitch would have been cleared in seconds.
However, human rights groups call tasers “cruel and inhumane”, but these fans have the choice of staying in the stands. If they run on to a playing area they should be tasered, which Im sure a lot of freepers would pay good money to watch!

Wrong in so many ways...public drunken idiocy would be cut down if drunks were NEVER cut a break for being drunk. It should unconditionally INCREASE the penalty!

And resisting arrest should be *so* painful and unpleasant no one ever so much as *thinks* about doing it a second time.

We all wish we didn’t have to worry about someone potentially being a biological/chemical waste dump.

In order to do this, we will need to roll back the liberalization of drugs and contagious diseases.

At one time, we used to lock away people that carried dangerous pathogens and not allow them to come into the country.

Today, they can walk right across the border and city governments dispense free needles to addicts.

Look, read the article. He was only touched with the taser. That means he was zapped like a common stun gun. It doesn't cause a total motor control lock up as when the darts are fired into the body to create a circuit. I realize that you really don't know how a taser works, but it can be used as a common stun gun as it was in this case. Other posters have made the point that there is never a reason for an officer to risk his own safety and the safety of the public when a person physically resists a lawful arrest. There is a “use of force matrix” that officers in Florida have to abide by. The fact that this encounter was witnessed by countless people and their camera equipped cell phones makes it clear, at least to me, that the officers acted well within their authority in this case. BTW, verbally resisting arrest is not the same as verbally threatening a policeman with harm.

I agree. The fact is however that most cops are decent people. When the person’s record check comes back clean and all they were doing is being stupid and no one (except maybe them) was hurt why are you going to screw up their life with a felony arrest?

I agree! They need to rethink the terms of the use of tasers and retrain officers. It is an instrument that should come short of shooting someone who is unarmed but violent. It should not be used to gain submission where the officer is in no danger but is being questioned by the target.

One thing officers used to be better at was talking to people causing a problem in order to gain cooperation. Now they just reach for the taser when there is no clear physical danger. When abused, it is an instrument of torture. We have seen too many videos and read of too many incidents where the people are being tased because they are verbally questioning of the officer and the officer is not engaging their minds and acting wise and respectful.

Officers should expect questions when they are arresting people. They should be tolerant of hearing out people and showing them that degree of respect. They are not human beings and should not be trained to act like dangerous, mindless animals. People are going to start treating them as they treat others and that will be hugely dangerous.

And STOP shooting the pets, for God’s sake!

Couldn’t just club him, slice or give him the birdie?

Nah, that would've just teed him off.

Of course the problem is that the lizard-brain that directs one's actions in these cases doesn't think. Indeed, it shuts down the part of the brain that might actually think once or twice about the consequences.

A sufficently belligerent drunk would charge at you even if you were pointing a loaded shotgun at his chest.

A little birdie told me that this is true.

“Is the purpose of the Taser to disable people who are verbally combative?”

How many were also in attendance and NOT drunk and disorderly did NOT get tasered?

You just have a very poor understanding of what represents a threat.

An uncooperative unarmed naked old man can infect you with a deadly disease that will not only infect you but potentially infect your spouse. Leaving you both dead.

Any potential physical contact with someone else is a threat.

this is the future...too many of us just want thinks "handled" and we join our leftist brothers and sisters in thinking this....convenience in American society is everthing, unfortunately...

I'm sure that we'll see tea party memebers tasered before its al thru, for shouting some indignities like "obama is a liar".....

'How many were also in attendance and NOT drunk and disorderly did NOT get tasered?"

You'll have to excuse me if I fail to find the justification jolting a man with 50K volts, just because he's a loudmouth drunk. If three cops can't remove someone from an event (who by their own report says wasn't being violent) without the help of an electric shocking device, perhaps they should look into the meter-maid department.

If cops don't like getting called names, they should get an office job.
