A little story to explain market behavior: There was a farmer who had a nice looking horse out in the pasture.....one day his neighbor stopped by and said "that's a nice looking horse you got there, would you take 50 dollars for him?" The farmer thought for a minute and said sure.....a few weeks go by, and the farmer starts to miss his horse, so he stops by to see the horse, and the other farmer comes over to see him.....the first farmer, missing his old horse asks him to buy it back for a hundred....the second farmer, realizing the profit, says sure. This goes back and forth with each farmer selling it for a tidy profit each time.......then the second farmer stops by to buy the horse back, again....and lo and behold the horse is gone.....he says to the first farmer: "where's that horse?" To which the first farmer replies, I sold him to a man from out of state.....the second farmer exclaims: "now why'd you go and do that, we was making a nice living off of that horse."
Kind of similar to the ponzi scheme that is the stock market....

I've posted that story before, but for those who haven't seen it before, here it is, and its not my little parable...don't know where I saw it first, its just a cute story about the stock market.

Also, they are running out of plausible stories to cover their tracks. Fat fingered trader? That’s the best they could come up with? They really must have been panicking if that was all they could think of.

“Wait for next week”

You are correct. If the EU can not come up with something concrete to deal with Greece, many EU banks are exposed to Greek bonds. Right now there is a slow down in overnight lending amongst the EU banks. If no solution is established by the EU, then the process can freeze triggering a banking crisis similar to the one after Lehman Bros collapsed in 2008. Since US/Asian banks are globally connected to EU banks the crisis can spread. WORD OF ADVICE TO ALL FREEPERS - PULL ENOUGH CASH OUT OF YOUR SAVINGS TO COVER 1-2 WEEKS OF EXPENSE, JUST IN CASE A RUN ON US BANKS CAUSED BY EU CRISIS HAPPENS.

It could just be waiting for the German election on Sunday, which the ECB does not want to appear to be influencing.

Well, Merkel appears to be doing poorly in the Rhineland which apparently is a negative statement on her choice to back the 120 B Greek bailout.

Don't quite know what that means for the market at this point.

Start with the worst of them, Goldman, and work our way down.

I'd start with the bamster myself, but that's just me ;)

“Why is it that every former Chairman of GS is a no good scumbag - Rubin, Corzine, Paulson, et.al.? They’re all Democrats too!”

This is the transitive rule:

If a = b and b = c, then a = c.

Former Chairmen of GS = DemocRATs and DemocRATs = no good scumbags, then Former Chairmen = no good scumbags
