Obama: Technology becomes 'diversion' rather than 'a tool of empowerment'
The Hill ^ | 5/9/10 | Bridget Johnson

President Barack Obama cited the influx of new technology as "putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy" in a commencement address to graduates at Virginia's Hampton University on Sunday.

"You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t rank all that high on the truth meter," Obama said. "With iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations; information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment.

"All of this is not only putting new pressures on you; it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy."

Obama said that education would "fortify" the graduates to meet the challenges posed by these changes.

The president said education not only leaves the students prepared to compete in a global economy, but "it can also prepare you as citizens."

"With so many voices clamoring for attention on blogs, on cable, on talk radio, it can be difficult, at times, to sift through it all; to know what to believe; to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s not," Obama said. "Let’s face it, even some of the craziest claims can quickly gain traction. I’ve had some experience with that myself. Fortunately, you’ll be well positioned to navigate this terrain.

"Your education has honed your research abilities, sharpened your analytical powers, and given you a context for understanding the world," the president added. "Those skills will come in handy."

My impression exactly. I am an engineer, thus I am a threat to the new socialist workers paradise?

It was so much better when there was only the tightly controlled voices of network news and newspapers. No misinformation to sift through there. Just trust them to tell you all you need to know.

Now that the raw information is available with only a minimal amount of searching, we can actually tell when the government media machine is lying to us. We can find the information those in power would rather we not know about. The technology makes it so difficult for Dear Reader.

Exactly: First, demonize all that “distracting,” “confusing” information. Then, protect us from it.

The history of Pol Pot doesn’t get near the attention it deserves.

As usual, the smallest application of logic unravels Obama's statements.

If he is complaining that today's youth are wasting time on electronic devices that do little more than amuse people, he is correct. He provides a list: iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations. But only the iPad has web access, and so few of them are out there I seriously doubt they have any significant impact on anything.

Then Obama swerves into somewhat different territory: "With so many voices clamoring for attention on blogs, on cable, on talk radio, it can be difficult, at times, to sift through it all; to know what to believe; to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s not".

Golly, I can’t remember the last time I read (radical right-wing lies/s) FR articles by way of my xbox or ipod. How about you?

As with so much of the propaganda spewed by Obama, I don't think this juxtaposition is an accident. He has selected items that any college grad, with some semblance of maturity, knows are time wasters. He then associates this attitude with listening to talk radio and gathering information online. Since there are virtually no voices from the left on radio, and quite a bit of conservative material on the web, his intent seems to be: convince young minds not to waste their time sifting for the truth. Fortunately, he is positioned well to tell them what it is...

Joseph Goebbels would be proud.

“With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations—none of which I know how to work—”

In addition to your photo of Barry with his iPod
we have this from the New York Times article
about Barry and his cough, cough “ special friend “
and “ body man “ Reggie Love.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/27/us/politics/27reggie.html
“ On The Court And Off , One Aide Looms Over Obama “
May 27, 2008
“ it was Mr. Love who had uploaded his music to the senator’s iPod in the first place — a silver Nano that he bought the senator for his 46th birthday.

“So I’ve gotten pretty fond of Jay-Z,” Mr. Obama said. “He’s broadened my horizons in the hip-hop world.”

In turn, Mr. Obama said he had gotten Mr. Love into “everything from John Coltrane to Frank Sinatra.”

And I’m sure Judy Garland .
Barry excels in one area only.
Pathological lying.

Barry, we laugh at you, and we mock you! We see you for who you are: An Affirmative Action, Community Aggitating, American Hating, (p)resident with ZERO skills and abilities.

Even in the midst of your narcissism, you know what we think about you is true...and this eats at you...doesn’t Barry?

Barry, you show us your weakness all the time. We see it in your face when somebody confronts you with the truth. You can’t hide rage an anger. We see your weakness in that you now are hinting that we have too much technology (read: information)! Heck, we even see your weakness when you rely on a teleprompter to speak to 6th Graders, or at a Commencement Address!

Barry, we want to thank you and Hillary for bringing the parasite Saul Alinsky to our collective consciousness! Information and technology are power! You’ve taught us the Alinsky tactics well ;)

Poor Barry, what’s a class B dictator to do when he just can’t stifle the truth? I guess you should’ve done something about that pesky technology an information thingy, before the American people found out who you really were. Truths a bit** ain’t it Barry?

Barry, you know what makes those of us on our side strong? We love our country, and we know that God provided it to us...not some POS like yourself.
