Attorney General Eric Holder tells Jake Tapper this morning that alleged Times Square bombing screwup Faisal Shahzad was facilitated, financed and working under the direction of the Pakistani Taliban.
While that clears some things up, remember that there is still a middle-aged Tea Party supporter stalking the Nutmeg State, who is angry about the housing crisis and the health care bill, with his U.S. citizenship still in good standing, and probably linking up with our home-grown militias for more one-off attacks.
OK, so I'm the millionth person to make that joke in the last week. But it's more than a joke because not all the people making those wildly wrong claims about Shahzad's background and motivation were pundits or minor potentates like New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The "one-off" attack line came from the highest official in the American government charged with preventing attacks exactly like Shahzad's: Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano.
Napolitano's rhetorical slip is a little too serious to be palmed off with some linguistic woolgathering. She has made clear repeatedly that she believes people with Gadsden flag bumper stickers are a greater threat to domestic tranquility than out-of-the-closet terrorists who receive training and material assistance in foreign terror centers. She has been wrong about this every time, and she will continue to be wrong until Americans actually die.
This is an obvious politicization of her office. (Napolitano's favored targets -- health care protesters and disgruntled veterans -- are distinguished not by their propensity toward violence but by their opposition to the administration.) But if you believe in the necessity of a Homeland Security Department, every day Napolitano is in charge of it creates an actual risk to life and property. Napolitano has a positive burden of proof: She needs to demonstrate some understanding of how to do her job, or she needs to be fired, for the security of the United States and the safety of the American people.
Fired? She’ll likely get a promotion of some sort. In ObamaWorld, it’s her most redeeming quality.
Prosecuted for criminal incompetence at the least. Ideally, tried for treason.
Concur.. you screw up in government and you get a promotion.
After all, she wasn't fired for the Detroit airplane failed terrorist attack, now was she?
But for allowing the idiotic “its a white guy” comments to go on for so long afterward Bloomberg, Napolitano, among others should be facing some major heat for hampering an investigation.
In Obama’s commie world we, the citizens, are the damn enemy.
If she does, it will be nothing but PR window dressing as part of what is increasingly looking like Operation Make Barry Look Tough
Secretary is such a lowly position. She’ll be crowned Czar of Homeland Security.
This is a joke right?
Napolitano will not be fired. I think Holder finally officially stated the bomber’s ties to the Taliban when it was absolutely clear that everyone else connected the dots, and he could not weasel around it. The truth is catching up to this administration, and it may soon find itself in a corner.
The jihadists must really love Hussein; there has been more attacks on NY than before he became POTUS.
Ain’t gonna happen.
Is the Pope Jewish?
Surely you jest.
I honestly can’t think of a single thing she has done correctly, and she certainly hasn’t responded to any terrorist actions in a manner that demonstrated any competence. She has been very lucky a couple of time, so she had the audacity to say “ the system worked”.
Is this a trick question?
How do you measure incompetence in an administration in which competence is an irrelevance?
