Just a week after the last time a California school told its students that the American flag was somehow racist, another California school repeated the lesson. This time a middle school student was taught that drawing an American flag was wrong. However, drawing a picture of President Obama was apparently praise worthy:
A teacher in california screaming at a LaRaza rally about overthrowing the U.S. and taking back their land; teacher claiming the U.S. flag is offensive, and the cherry on top: teacher beats 6th grader in Houston because she thinks he is wanting to fight with a girl. She sure showed him! Homeschool.
I don't mean to offend you, but you don't have a picture of Jesus in your home. You have an artist's rendering of what they believe Jesus may have looked like. Jesus was a Jew and probably didn't look anything like the typical renderings we have of him.
But, I agree that I would never, ever place a picture of the Obamanation in my home unless it were going to be used as a dartboard.
Here is my email to the school principal: I would suggest actual California residents CALL Mr. Gutierrez personally.
Please explain to me how a teacher of yours can find the American flag “offensive” in an American school’s art class. Do your teachers no longer teach Freedom of Speech and/or expression?
Also, another teacher was “praised” for drawing Barack Hussein Obama. This is indoctrination.
Thirdly, I demand that this “teacher” be fired as she does not deserve the American publics respect OR our taxpayer dollars.
Again, I would like a personal letter back from you explaining what has been done in regard to the three items mentioned above.
Sincerely,
Judi Pool
Plymouth, WI
P.S. You may feel you do not owe me an explanation because I am not in your school district or state. However, since I DO pay federal taxes, and your school is receiving federal funds to teach anti-Americanism; that alone makes it my business.
CALL, write, fax and email. See my letter above.
Hey, everyone, let’s really do something constructive, and work together on this. Contact Gavilan View Middle School, 18250 Van Buren Avenue, Salinas, CA 93906. Telephone 831-443-7212, 831-443-0908. Fax John Gutierrez, Principal. jgutierr@monterey.k12.ca.us
We must step up and speak out LOUD AND CLEAR against all who attempt to deny us our freedom, our rights. And we must do this each and every time we see this injustice.
I think your email is spot-on and straight to the point. I'm also going to remind the principal that as citizens of the United States, he and his teaching staff “pledge their allegiance to the Flag of The United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands,” and they should conduct themselves as good citizens by example. If any of his teaching staff feels differently, there are job openings in Cuba, Venezuela and Russia.
It's good to see enthusiasm like yours, Judi. I have read much conversation and snarky remarks on different issues posted on freerepublic, but no plans of action. We need to work together on issues that come up...there's strength in numbers and there's more of us then there is of them. Your email is a great example of a “plan.”
Orthodox icons go back to the Apostles, who knew Jesus. They portray Jesus as a Mediterranean man, not a blue-eyed blond Northern European type. And icons are stylized to convey spiritual truths. They are not meant to be portraits.
Icons are “windows to heaven”. Honor given to icons pass to the One they portray. And icons have power—some have even worked miracles, small and great. This continues to the present day, including with people I know.
If you learn about the history and theology of Orthodox icons, you will not make statements like the one you made.
Of course, there is no comparison between an Orthodox Christian icon and the portrait or photo of a dictator or a would-be dictator like obama.
I’m not going to hold my breath for a reply from this so-called principal. But, we need to call them out everytime something like this goes on.
The teacher’s name is Peggy Saunders. She and her art class have long participated in the Yellow Ribbon campaign, drawing pictures (including American flags) to be sent to soldiers overseas. She doesn’t remember saying the flag was offensive and nobody at the school besides the student seems to have any idea what happened.
