Fr. Pavone: Abortion advocates do not belong on Supreme Court [Kagan]

Fr. Pavone: Abortion advocates do not belong on Supreme Court

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.

After President Obama nominated current Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court on Monday, Fr. Frank Pavone criticized the nominee, saying that anyone who fails to protect human life “does not belong in any public office, much less the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Fr. Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, explained on Monday that “Supreme Court Justices are not supposed to shape public policy, and their nomination and confirmation should be based on their qualifications, not their views on specific issues.”

He added, however, that “there are certain issues so central to the very nature and purpose of government that one's position on those issues is tantamount to a qualification for the job.”

According to some pro-life groups, the 50-year-old Kagan has a history of abortion advocacy.

Though she has never served as a judge and therefore has no judicial record, the former dean of Harvard Law School has reportedly had strong ties to pro-abortion groups. America United for Life president Dr. Charmaine Yoest said on Monday that Kagan “has been an abortion advocate and activist and an apologist for activist judges.”

The nominee's “confirmation will give us the kind of activist, radical Supreme Court that gave us the Roe decision,” Yoest added. “The President's portrayal of Solicitor-General Kagan as mainstream and centrist is inconsistent with Kagan's own record.”

The Catholics are weighing in on this one.

Not the CINOs -- the REAL Catholics, mind you!

No to Kagan!

Was Fr. Pavone Terri’s Priest at the time when her ex husband was not allowing her to recieve Holy Eucharist?

I am familiar with him and his passion/advocasy for life via EWTN.

But I was discussing him off line and before I need to confirm the question above before sharing it as fact.

A little off-topic but, despite the ‘Pubbies’ immediate negative reaction to Kagan, I fully expect them to cave or sell out and confirm her.

I have yet to see a single ‘Pubbie currently in office who has had a spine transplant.

In the citations I’m seeing being put forward, the picture which emerges is highly contradictory. She appears to have both supported homosexual privileges and to have opposed them. To have supported the military and to have opposed it. To have thought the Framers did a good job in limiting governmental power and that they did an imperfect job (a la her mentor Thurgood Marshall).

I say the woman hasn’t a clue what she really thinks, nor why. I think she’s yet another mushy-headed liberal who has developed a skill at pander but no real principles or humility before truths larger than herself. And I think her deep-down preferences do not in the least positively resonate with the principles that underlay the founding of our nation.

Yes, he was on the scene during that controversy. He even asked publicly whether it would be proper for him to violate orders and be with her or be arrested at the end (I don't remember what he ended up doing). Whether he was the priest at that particular incident, I don't know; presumably in happier times Terri had her own parish priest. But Fr. Pavone was certainly with her during her ordeal.

strong ties to pro-abortion groups

I wish the Republican politicians stop with their "we have no litmus test" nonsense. A pro-abort anyone is not qualified for ANY public service regardless of anything else. Except maybe cleaning latrines in prison where they belong.

It is a legitimate test, and one that disqualifies absolutely.

As if Obama cares what a Christian (especially a white one) thinks.

Fr. Pavone was the invited guest to lead prayers at a PP/abortion protest I was at. Interestingly, he did not recite/lead the rosary at the finish of his prayers (which were *all* ecumenical), but instead let another couple area priests do it as he went off to the side and talked with the organizer of the march. This was a little disturbing to me, but I was told through the holy grapevine, that Fr. Pavone, since he deals with pro-Life issues across the faith board, doesn't put strong weight on the recitation of the rosary at these venues. That made me concerned (because he IS a Catholic priest), but he does, of course, do an incredible amount for the unborn ... I like this article, although it's pretty tough to read ... Applause from Hell.

I sure hope the GOP doesn’t cave in on her! They can block her if they stick together.

Where all the Catholic Bishops’ on this pro life issue?

You never hear anything from Wilton Gregory in Atlanta making statements about abortion!

Oh yes the Bishops are too busy supporting law breakers, i.e., drug dealers, human smugglers, illegal aliens, etc.

Never question the dedication of Fr. Pavone to Pro-Life, or Catholic, causes. He is a wonderful man, a wonderful speaker/leader, and a wonderful priest.

You know, he had to seek special permission to start his pro-life ministry? Why would any priest need to seek special permission from his Bishop, or from Rome, to start Priests for Life? (I’ve forgotten who, exactly, had to give permission, but I remember when it was granted.)
