Republican in Virginia Primary Donated to Obama
Human Events ^ | 5/12/10 | Michelle Oddis

Scott Rigell, running as the favorite of the GOP establishment in the Republican primary in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, donated $1,000 to Barack Obama, according to opensecrets.com, a research group that tracks money in politics.

“Rigell was one of the highest Obama donors in the zip code,” Scott Taylor told HUMAN EVENTS. Taylor, a former Navy SEAL and local business owner, is also running in the Republican primary.

Taylor, whose campaign slogan is “Send a SEAL not a RINO,” said, Rigell "didn’t even vote in the Republican primary, and then gave $1,000 to Barack Obama on March 10,” 2008.

“In November Republicans will aim at the Democrats, but for now their only expression is against the Republican establishment, and that’s who Rigell is,” said former Rep. Tom Davis (R.-Va.). “He gave money to Obama, he gave money to Mark Warner, and Louise Lucas, who is a Democrat state senator down there.”

On a local blog, Rigell responded by saying that, “The only alternative on the Democratic side was Senator Obama. Yes, I was moved by his rhetoric and by the prospect of seeing a minority rise to the highest office in our land. If we were to end up with a Democrat President I wanted that person to be Obama, not Clinton; I was not indifferent to the two possible outcomes.”

Rigell also supported the economic stimulus and through the Cash for Clunkers program received $444,500 from the U.S. taxpayers to benefit his automobile dealership. When asked about accepting the money, Rigell said, " I had no ethical problem whatsoever."

Why can't we find responsible people to serve in our government. It is like a disease.

Rigell is scum. I’ll bet he didn’t have a problem taking taxpayer cash.

The libs started infiltrating many years ago and the lax standards of the GOP let them get away with it.

Correct! No ethics; no problem.

Geez, even his Democrat opponent didn’t give any money to Obama. And this is who the State GOP is pushing? We have the same problem here in Georgia.

Yup.

My wife and I stopped giving money to the RNC back in 2002 or thereabouts. We contribute directly to candidates we deem worthy, including one democrat senator at the state level.

I give snarky “Constitutional Constructionist” answers to all the “RNC Polls” and questionaires I receive in the mail, too. So far they don’t seem to have gotten the message.

Don’t worry Mr. Rigell there are those of us in the VA GOP who are onto you. I will personally see that your campaign is burnt to the ground.

Ditto! I strongly support our Jeff Sessions and Shelby and send contributions straight to them, and to other conservative candidates in other states.

I live in this district and can tell you thaqt news about this has just started to circulate among Republicans in Virginia Beach. I heard it just last week. If Taylor gets some funding he can torpedo Rigell's chances and save us from another RINO. I'm making it my mission in life to make sure everyone I know in my district knows ALL about Rigell's dishonesty and disloyalty.

This is a candidate who deserves our help...please consider contributing to Scott Taylor if you can.
