Laura Bush Supports Gay Marriage, Abortion

Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.

After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.

Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.

In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."

Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

You know what finally calmed my heart, the thought came to me that these beautiful little innocent angels are instantly in the Lord's hands

I wish my "letting go" experience was as pleasant, mine was broken health.

I will never accept it but I do know that the evil is the law of the land and there is only so much as individuals that we can do

That pretty much sums up my epiphany and is the truth.

I think, at the end, the liberals and conservatives will split the final scores: one for each. When the younger generation who learn from schools about sexual diversity, etc., and see gay characters on TV and popular culture every day, grow up, they will eventually vote for gay marriage. However, when they see babies in the womb through the USG, and listen to the babies’ heart beats, it is very difficult to defend the feminist doctrine that babies are merely part of woman’s body.

I lost some respect for Laura Bush when I heard these comments. And of course Larry King didn’t ask her to define “medical reasons”. Most women don’t have “medical reasons”, but “inconvenience to my lifestyle” reasons. And what “medical reasons” justify the taking of innocent human life? Sometimes doctors operate on the unborn when they have medical conditions or problems.

Laura merely then joins GW in being adept at turning off supporters and making enemies across the political spectrum.

I'll second that; she was a Lady, a good wife and a wonderful first lady who never made us ashamed of her.

Seriously, this is breaking news? Who cares? I can like people but disagree with them on issues. Maybe some other Freepers don’t have that ability.

What is different is these particular issues were a part of the Republican Platform that she and her husband represented, and were trusted to uphold. For those that labored for that platform, and for it to continue, it matters alot.

I have friends outside politics with different views on these issues. When in their company I try to avoid these issues, and do my best to accept them as the individuals they are.

She always was liberal-like her husband. They only pander to real conservatives to get their vote.

Laura Bush is just like her mother in law, Barbara Bush, who was just as adamantly Pro-Abortion (”Pro-Choice”)

Barbara kept her mouth shut while Bush 41 was in and Laura did the same while Bush 43 was in office.

Bush 41 was Pro-Abortion until he became Reagan’s VP and President himself.

In 1993 Bush 41 told Larry King he was “Pro-Choice” in a joint appearance with Barbara, then they shut up when their sons entered politics in 1994.

Whatever it took.... Just like the democrats are doing.

That doesn't say anything.

You want him to be like the dems and rant and rave and accuse? We have a classless prez that does that - not something anyone should want.

Besides that was McCain's job - but the little wuss only fights conservatives.

Laura has always been pro-choice. She stated this while GW was governor of Texas.

She’s just been overrated for a long time, as have ALL the Bushes. I am sorry I ever voted for any of them.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So was I even as I did so. Not doing it again. More duds from the GOP, no vote this time. No Romney. No way.

So much for the left’s notion that Republican women are all obedient Stepford wives.

That being said, Laura wasn’t elected and wouldn’t have been elected with those positions.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, she is just wrong.

Mrs Bush is allowed to have her own political immoral opinions and write about them.

What does an opinion have to do with running for office? Are you not allowed to have an opinion if you are running for a political office?
