L.A. Vs. Arizona

Illegal Immigration: Los Angeles' city council votes to boycott Arizona for its enforcement of existing federal law. No word yet on how China's human rights violations will be treated. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

The next time the Lakers play Los Suns in Phoenix, traveling fans are advised to bring their own snacks. The L.A. City Council voted 13-1 on Wednesday to economically boycott the state of Arizona for daring to protect its borders against the crime, violence and illegal immigration that recently took the life of an Arizona rancher and has made Phoenix the kidnapping capital of the U.S.

Council member and co-sponsor Janice Hahn, who is also running for California lieutenant governor, was asked about the Lakers' upcoming NBA playoff series with the Suns. Games 3 and 4 are scheduled in Phoenix. Hahn told NBCLA, "If you go, we're hoping you take your own snacks and won't buy things in Arizona." This is beyond silly.

The Arizona law, SB1070, empowers local police officers to check the immigration status of individuals whom they have encountered during a "lawful contact," if an officer reasonably suspects the person stopped of being in the country illegally, and if an inquiry into the person's status is "practicable."

Councilman Ed Reyes, one of the measure's co-sponsors, sees it differently: "As an American, I cannot go to Arizona today without a passport. If I come across an officer who's having a bad day and feels that the picture on my ID is not me, I can be ... deported, no questions asked. That is not American." Neither is it true.

Isn’t it funny how when getting points added to your SAT score, scholarships, loans, job hiring, job advancement and entry into professional schools and Government positions, no one has an issue raising their hand to identify ethnicity.

Now they are angry?

Selective anger.

In fact I won’t be buying any produce fruit nuts or anything else made or grown in California!

As a contractor I am canceling a major job that was sked for work in California next fall. As far as I’m concerned .....Who needs California .....Screw that Place!

Something tells me though they won’t cancel their contract with AZ for water or electricity.

Let us pause a moment to recognize Councilmember Greg Smith, the lone dissenter on the vote.

Also, 72.9% responders to local L.A. TV station poll say NO to the following question: “Do you agree with the plan for Los Angeles to boycott Arizona?”

Someone wrote that the LA boycott could cost Arizona 7 million dollars.

That isn’t much next to the amount that good people will spend coming here for vacations and recreation. Then you can add to this the amount that our citizens will spend in state instead.

Liberals are fleeing Arizona.
Illegals are fleeing Arizona.
Dopers and drug dealers are fleeing Arizona.
Politically correct types are fleeing Arizona.

Come and join us. It’s turning into paradise here.

I support for all illegal immigrants to boycott AZ and go to California. The legislature there obviously has your support.

Az should offer free bus to illegals to downtown LA.

Arizona should have amended their law to give a 3-month grace period to any illegal immigrant who wanted to relocate to California, and U-Haul rentals would be provided by the state.

Good grief, even parts of Mexico are run more sensibly than California.

If that one every took off it would sink the state. Agriculture is a big export in California. Are you serious about this?

Most of that stuff is produced in the good part of California, so be very careful that you don't end up hurting good people who totally agree with us.

That said, I won't be taking a scheduled trip to San Diego that I take every year just because I won't feel safe there, or on the trip over there.

You might want to re-think this.

Most of growers in the Central Valley are NOT brain-dead liberals. Instead, most are hard-working, God-fearing conservatives.

You won't be hurting California, you'll be hurting the farmers. And, like Victor Davis Hanson (college professor...and raisin grower), they're on our side.

We usually go to LA for a 3-day weekend every Fall. Good hotels, shows, shopping, great food. She who must be obeyed sees it as a big deal every year. Today we both agreed, Arizona is our new destination. $2,500-3,000 is what we usually do.

Actually I believe AZ gets most of its fruit from Mexico rather than CA.

CA lawmakers and environmentalists are hurting their own Central CA farmers because of the water issue and smelt fish preservation.

Umm...if it's really Arizona vs L.A., the Americans in Arizona will win hands down.

Los Angeles is a pale ghost of its former self. If Ms. Brewer wants to send the AZ ANG to finish the job, won't take more than a day or two.

The Reconquistas in LA are only there for the goodies. Once the candy store is closed, they'll be moving on to the next patch of suckers (Seattle? Portland?). If someone were to contest their occupation of the land, they'd be gone overnight.

Best part, the American Patriots in Arizona would get some beach front property; they deserve it, Villaraigosa doesn't.
