REYNOSA - Trusted CHANNEL 5 NEWS sources confirm a potentially dangerous situation is unfolding along the border.
According to multiple law enforcement agencies, the Zetas are preparing for an assault on the Reynosa area. The battle is supposed to begin this weekend. We're told it will likely last longer.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS contacts at DPS and other law enforcement agencies have confirmed this information is "legitimate and very real."

Large metro area about 60 miles west from Padre Island in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. My parents live 12 miles north of Reynosa and the border. We have a family citrus farm in the area as well.
For the most part that's true, but the former "School of The Americas", now known as the "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation" (WHINSEC) at Ft. Benning has trained a lot of Central American Officers in small unit leadership courses including Ranger School, and various intel gathering courses. Now, I have no way of knowing if any graduates are directly participating in the Zetas, but almost certainly the institutional knowledge they took back had percolated down through the ranks...that was it's intent.
Are they the equal of our elite forces? Certainly not. could they put a county sheriff's department or a city police department in a world of hurt? Damn straight.
I used to catch the plane at Hobby Airport in Houston twice a week to Dallas Love field. Now, the plane I would catch had just come from Harlingen, Texas. As likely as not, the Harlingen people on that plane were drunk at 7:30AM in the morning, every time.
I never did figure out what was going on.
