President Obama's nomination of Elena Kagan to serve as the next Supreme Court Justice is no surprise to many. By most accounts, she is likely to be an effective advocate on the Court. For those in favor of the Court's steady erosion of the constraints on government power enshrined in our written Constitution, her nomination should be welcome. For those opposed, her nomination provides a call to arms to defend the principles of limited government.
While she would be only one of nine Justices, Kagan's capacity to influence the direction of the Court may be significant. As many have observed in recent days, she has a strong intellect -- an asset in attempting to influence colleagues on a Court that is noted for its intellectual firepower. In order to shape the direction of the Court, a Justice must possess the ability to craft arguments that are persuasive to the other members. Kagan appears to have the potential to excel in this area.

The court is not for “advocates”.
If I recall, Supreme Court Justices are supposed to be neutral and not “advocate” any controversial causes or philosophy.
I want justice for all as defined by law, not socioeconomic ladders.
Kagan is a socialist oil slick just waiting to happen. If she is seated then the amount of marxist slime that will ooze from her rulings will make the Gulf of Mexico look like white beaches and the Deepwater Horizon oil rig a mere lawn sprinkler.
Usually someone who is persuasive in this arena would have a demonstrated track record of scholarly publications and court decisions. This woman has none. It is more likely Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Thomas et. al. will be more of an influence on her than she will on them.
“A shrewd choice”?
Obama could have gotten any liberal hack to vote to liberal time and again. From his point of view this was a decidedly stupid selection. He has given us lots of ammo to use and a hot burning reminder of why we have to get out and vote. Shrewd choice indeed!
The rose colored glasses are in full spectrum mode with this inane article.

Slogans? Verbal virtuosity? That’s what Liberals use on place of reason and logic and law.
Persuade whom? Kennedy is the only loose cannon.
