KY-Sen. 2010: In Senate race in Kentucky, the son also rises; 'Tea party' buoys Rand Paul's bid
The Washington Times ^ | 2010-05-14 | David Eldridge

Just days before the party primaries in Kentucky, outsider Senate candidate Rand Paul holds a double-digit lead over Secretary of State Trey Grayson, the "establishment" Republican anointed by the GOP's Washington leadership - including Senate minority leader and fellow Kentuckian Mitch McConnell.

The race is the latest test of the strength of the anti-Washington sentiment fueling insurgent campaigns like Mr. Paul's across the country - and would be a bitter rebuke for Mr. McConnell from the state party he helped build.

Mr. McConnell and Texas Sen. John Cornyn, head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, strongly backed Mr. Grayson in the race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Jim Bunning. But Mr. Paul, a Bowling Green ophthalmologist, has emerged from the state's powerful "tea party" movement as the candidate to beat.

Hey Rabs, are you ever going to admit that maybe Sarah has had something to do with Rand Paul’s success as well?

That doesn’t change the fact that she endorsed multiple RINOs (McCain, Fiorina) and her PAC is helping others (Graham, Hatch, Murkowski).

When Palin endorsed Rand Paul, I started visiting the Kentucky Senate race threads here.

After a month or so of seeing nothing against Rand except for name association and innuendo (and no defence of Trey Grayson) I came to think that Palin knew what she was doing in what seemed like a strange choice at first.

At this late date, as we have seen Trey self destruct into pettiness and reverting back to his Bill Clinton days, the choice of Rand seems like a rock solid choice, especially since people like Jim DeMint, Jim Bunning and James Dobson have joined in endorsing Rand.

That really isn't the point now, is it.

You can't bring yourself to say one nice thing about her!

Way too funny!

Ha ha ha!

Rand Paul is all right. We need some anti-establishment types up there.

So Rabs, what do you think of these endorsements by Sarah?

1. Nikki Haley
2. Michelle Bachmann
3. Scott Brown
4. Doug Hoffman
5. Rand Paul
6. Marco Rubio
7. Chris Christie
8. Bob McDonnell
9. Sean Duffy

McCain chose Governor Palin for his Vice President slot. Even if the guy has done nothing else of value in his entire career, Palin kinda has to endorse him for that reason alone -- considering that she was the beneficiary thereof.

I don't like the Fiorina endorsement either, of course DeVore would be preferable by far; but at this point, in the California Primary, my favorite candidate is "Anybody But Campbell". Palin's trying to beat Campbell; even if I disagree with her tactics, I certainly understand the sentiment.

But if you're going to rake Palin over the coals for having endorsed a few moderate Republicans (which she's probably going to do, if she's trying to build a Palin Coalition for 2012), it seems to me that you should give her credit for her more Conservative/Constitutionalist endorsements also. Rand Paul certainly qualifies.

Interesting that everyone is keeping Dick Cheney out of this race, he endorsed Trey Grayson.

This race also led me to confront my doubts about Dick Cheney, a guy that I liked all these years, until I found out about his gay agenda politics. Dick Cheney's endorsement meant nothing. Trey already wins the support of the anti-social conservatives.

I really admire his (Cheney's) strength with the media and in debates, but in this race, he carried no weight with me, and evidently with no one else.

Cheney and Laura Bush are huge disappointments of late. I was a big Cheney fan for many years.

Sarah is all we have. I despise McCain. But she really couldn’t do anything else.

Same here.

I wonder if GWB's positions on the same issues were sincere?

For now I am choosing to believe they are.

If they are, I imagine they probably had some lively discussions concerning both Abortion and Gay Marriage.

Rabs,

I have an honest question for you.

If a conservative POTUS candidate adds a moderate to RINO VP, would you run away from the POTUS candidate?

I was going to say that I seriously question why a man that can win 60 million votes on an issue, can't persuade his wife to agree with him on it, but then I remembered Reagan, and I also remembered that I am divorced.

I just don't know how that works in a relationship like that, sometimes I wonder if a lot of rich people lack true passion about such ideas, and that part of their success is based on moderation and non confrontation on matters of conscience.

It didn’t help McCain did it...

Nor did the Palin family endorsement of Tarkanian in Nevada help.

This is about the Tea Party movement not Palin.

I believe that what drives Rabs, is that he is a Ron Paul man all the way and Palin is an obstacle to Paul as a presidential candidate, social conservatism may play a role also.
