Coverage Denied. Why is the Federal government telling the chronically ill they deserve no help?
The New Haven Advocate ^ | May 12 2010 | Betsy Yagla

Almost every week for several years, Anne Marie Maffuid received a yellow piece of paper saying that the Medicaid-provided care for her mother would be terminated.

The reason: Maffuid’s mother has ALS and her condition wasn’t improving. ALS is a chronic disease, which, almost by definition, means that her condition is not expected to improve. There is no cure for ALS. Wheelchair-bound, Maffuid’s mother needed help showering and feeding herself, among other things; Medicare paid for a visiting nurse and therapy.

Maffuid is just one of many people who’ve received similar termination notices, says Gill Deford, an attorney with the Connecticut-based Center for Medicare Advocacy, a group that represents Medicare patients . . .

America’s elderly: Your termination notice is in the mail. And appropriately, it’s yellow.

I have heart disease and know that when I need it, they will not allow me to have Medicare - I can just see it coming. However, as long as I am able to stay self employed and buy my own insurance, I should be OK.

Zero and his minions just want the elderly sick to get out of their way....

One of the very few areas an all powerful big government approves of a budget cut, is the medical treatment of the terminally ill.

The voting public hates a monopoly, unless the monopoly is a bureaucracy, then we have fairness.

A baby at our church has a rare condition. His spine isn't connected. Can't remember what it's called. The surgery is over 100,000. The only doc that can do the op is in WI, the baby is in MI and has medicaid/medicare(I can't remember which is which). MI Medicaid won't pay for the operation in WI. The doc is willing to donate his time, the hospital will not accommodate the doctor. The doc said if the operation doesn't take place in the next several months, the little boy could be paralyzed for life. Our wonderful government at work.

This would not be a problem if the state/federal government gave people vouchers to purchase their own insurance.

Since its inception, the Federal Gubmint miscalculated & misspent the funding for Social Security and Medicare - then added the burden of an underfunded Medicaid program to the US health care system.

Seniors still pay premiums for Medicare and private Medigap plans which subsidize their health costs. Many seniors are healthy and don’t over-use benefits. Doesn’t matter - it is being sucked dry by Government bureaucrats, waste, fraud & abuse.

It is far less expensive to pay for home health aides than institutionalize the chronically ill. I’m surprised by this determination. I’m in CT too. Our mom was able to pay her bills for almost 15 years after retirement. Then we started picking up the tab. Sure we’ve spent over 75K but it was spread among us and a little at a time so there wasn’t any great sacrifice. Last summer, after she turned 90, we had to apply for Medicaid for her so someone would come by and bath her and a visiting nurse check her out twice a month.

Now I’m thinking we were suckers. We could have enrolled her in Medicaid in 2000 (or sooner if we had encouraged her to blow her money).

Haven’t detected, yet, a cut-off of her Medicaid (and obviously her condition is not improving). In fact, the case manager from the state is very solicitous of us. If we weren’t around to do most things for her, the state would pay a lot more than it costs to send someone over 4 times a week for a hour to bath her.

The elderly are a real threat to Zero because they are the generation who can remember America when it was America The Beautiful, not Socialist America.

Obama is using the EXACT EXACT playbook the left used in the UK. Open borders - kill off the elderly who built the country.

47% of people over 60 voted for Obama
49% of people 45 to 59 voted for Obama

What idiots. The younger people where even dumber.

“Yes We Can!”(......kill off the elderly)

Illegals and third world invaders deserve the elderly’s healthcare and retirement money.

I was at a meeting and had breakfast with the people. They were small business people and were older folks mainly. One guy was foaming at the mouth from the midwest and was 69 about how the Tea Party is so powerful and will save America. He had been a liberal his life up to about a year ago. He is still working and probably makes pretty good money.

He knows his death slip is in the mail.

Health Care: Coverage denied - Why is the federal government telling the chronically ill they deserve no help?'

Oh look! Would this be a "Death Panel" or the government version of "End of Life Counseling" by simply saying, "You're not getting better so we're terminating your care"?

Hmmm. Let me think .....
