BOSTON An immigration judge has granted asylum to President Obamas aunt and will allow her to stay in the United States, her lawyers said Monday. She could become a citizen in about six years.
Zeituni Onyango, 57, who lives in public housing in Boston, is the half-sister of Mr. Obamas late father and is from Kenya. She moved to the United States in 2000 on a valid visa and has been seeking asylum since 2002.
Judge Leonard Shapiro, an immigration judge in Boston, reached his decision in the long-running case on Friday. Her lawyers announced the decision Monday at their offices in Cleveland.
Ms. Onyango applied for asylum in 2002 and was rejected in 2004 and ordered to leave the country. She continued to fight the case and in April 2009, Judge Leonard Shapiro in Boston stayed her case until February, when hearings were held in the case.

Oh, please—the whole frickin’ family needs to be returned to kenya.
Just another symptom of the Federal Government failing to do its job when it comes to immigration.
No-one, not even a family member of the President (or the President himself), is above the law. We all agreed to live under these rules, and if someone isn’t willing to do that — to abide by the Constitution and the Federal Code, then they shouldn’t be here, period.
Illegal Immigrants are taking away opportunities from those in other nations who are more than willing to obey the laws in order to live in a country that is still basically free (for now, at least).
Those who support illegal immigration in any way, are in truth ANTI-LEGAL IMMIGRATION! Why do people insist on rewarding criminality, and discriminating against LEGAL immigrants?
AGAIN?
Lord, she must have been granted asylum six times today already.
Undocumented would appear to be a subset of illegal.
Which Asylum? Chattahoochir?
Well, I guess we know who's Obammys next Supreme Court nominee is going to be if the other one doesn't work out.
Why not just claim she was born in Hawaii and elect her to a public office while they’re at it.
The old lady is 57.
And I bet she’ got a birth certificate signed by the local midwife to prove it.
Hey; just like Heinz. And, it's one year for every state in the Union!
“If the President cant get his Aunt into the country, What is America coming to?
Give the old lady a break.”
She came here and stayed illegally. She got subsidized housing, free medical and a government job. She ignored a deportation order. She’s a criminal and should be in jail. I’m 5 years older and a LOT more ‘disabled’ and a bit tired of paying the way for the likes of her.
She called in after the Aggie (Perez?).
I thought her point was akin to how many angels dance on the head of a pin. I won't make the obvious connection.
All the better if she does. Obama could feed her instead of the taxpayers.
No she didn't, she ignored the deportation orders and stayed in the tenements where she lived until she was recently re-discovered..........Post Obama election.
The same midwife who delivered Barry?
We are a nation of laws, From the day that her visa expired she willfully became a criminal.
Why should she be rewarded for her criminal actions?
Not only has she been living here illegally, but living on the taxpayer’s dime in subsidized housing AND getting free medical care DESPITE having no health insurance. If Obama had any dignity he would be reimbursing the taxpayers for Auntie’s cost. That Auntie could get all this free medical care including a new hip without health insurance just shows more of Obama’s lies.
I’m going to get flamed for this, but I see it as reasonable to grant the President’s aunt asylum. She’s immediate family of the most powerful man on Earth.
I am absolutely not an Obama supporter, either.
So we should hold him and his family to a lower standard?
I don’t think she is that old. Maybe in her 50’s.
Whats the difference?
