Apocalypse Dem: Blumenthal Retreats On War Claims

In 2000, Slate magazine said of Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal: “Blumenthal is blessed with every political virtue except recklessness and luck.”

Well, we now know he has one, just not the other.

Responding to the bombshell New York Times report that he lied about his military service record in various public speeches over the years, Blumenthal admitted Tuesday he has "misspoken" in claiming he served in Vietnam. From the AP:

There are few things lower than to falsely claim military war service or honors.

Its not a "misspoke" thing, these are cowardly lies. These are dishonorable lies.

Every vet knows this.

I'm not easily offended; however as a vet, this does cross that threshold for moi.

All he had to do was tell the draft board that he did not want a deferment. never heard of the draft board making anyone take a deferment.

I applied to a Connecticut based corporation in 1980 and included references in my resume to my service in Vietnam (1968-1969) and the decorations and service medals I received.
The individual guiding me through the process told me we might want to scrub my resume of the Vietnam service. As he explained, “these people at the corporate headquarters in Connecticut are openly hostile to Vietnam veterans and will regard you as somewhere between a war criminal and scum.”
I told him the Vietnam stuff stayed and if I didn’t get the position, it would not be the first and likely not the last job I lost because of my Vietnam service.
