In 2000, Slate magazine said of Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal: “Blumenthal is blessed with every political virtue except recklessness and luck.”

Well, we now know he has one, just not the other.

Responding to the bombshell New York Times report that he lied about his military service record in various public speeches over the years, Blumenthal admitted Tuesday he has "misspoken" in claiming he served in Vietnam. From the AP:

Using the CYA terms, “misspoke” and “poor judgment,” should automatically eliminate one from holding any office in the country.

Just heard that he also stated that he was the captain of the swimming team while at Harvard. Word has it that not only was he not the captain, he was never on the swimming team. Anyone hear about this?

BlumenDodd claims he had no control over his five military deferments and didn’t have any connections. That needs to be investigated.

character, it’s all about character, something rarely found in any Democrat.

It’s also a word you will never associate with Obama, unless it’s ‘Obama has no character’.

That press conference was creepy. He lied and it was the NYTimes that showed it and there is video to back it up. I don’t think that is all that will appear either.

It’s absolutely astounding that the NY Times would have exposed the lies of a typical leftist. After all, the Times is the national lying CHAMP.

Any voters who would send Dodd to DC all these years will think Blumenthal just completed his resume with exclamation points.

Is “misspoken” the new way of saying “I lied?” Good Lord, just quit with the misspeaking and tell the truth.

On a less serious matter, another flattering but untrue description of Mr. Blumenthal’s history has appeared in profiles about him. In two largely favorable profiles, the Slate article and a magazine article in The Hartford Courant in 2004 with which he cooperated, Mr. Blumenthal is described prominently as having served as captain of the swim team at Harvard. Records at the college show that he was never on the team.

Typical. From what I have read no one impugned his service. Deferments were legal and common and he did serve in the reserves. OK, congratulations and thank you for your service. But.. Pointing out the fact that he has repeatedly exaggerated his claims of service and failed to correct the impression given numerous opportunities IS fair game and calls in to question his character and judgement. He should step down now and retain what he considers to be his own sense of honesty.

Remember a few years back when Hildabeast was telling us about coming under sniper fire in Croatia (or one of those former Balkan countries) as she & Chelsea were departing their aircraft, causing them to run for cover. She later had to retract the claim when the pilot (a senior AF officer) said no such incident occurred. She said she misspoke.
