Mark Souder: Would he have resigned if he were a Democrat?
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | May 19, 2010 | Husna Haq

Welcome to the club, Rep. Mark Souder.

So you had an affair with a staffer. After you had been elected on a platform of family values. Take a number, it’s getting crowded in here.

There’s Mark Sanford, who’s unusually fond of rambling hikes – and apologies. And Larry Craig, who enjoys playing footsie in airport restrooms. And John Ensign, who supported a federal ban on same sex marriages by proclaiming marriage is “the cornerstone on which our society was founded.”

Run on family values platform and prove by your actions that you think it’s a joke. Who cares what party they belong to, the hypocrisy is too much to take.

Exactamundo! Sauder chose the family values platform. Whenever it was pointed out that his record on economic issues was increasingly squishy, he fell back on his strong family credentials.

He not only has likely lost an otherwise safe House seat for the Republicans, but likely has single handedly cost a Senate seat as well.

democrats and liberals have no moral standards, so it is impossible for them to ever be guilty of immorality.

That is why they make it clear the worst thing one can be is a hypocrite in terms of morality.

And politicians wonder why we want to toss the whole lot out. They cannot be trusted in my opinion, and prove the point almost every day.

I do agree that a Dim would not leave office. But, this guy is suppose to be a “Conservative” with family values and stuff! Give me a break, clean up this mess now or we will never get back the country with a moral conscience. Just MHO. Vote the bums and bumetts out.

No, if he were a Democrat he wouldn’t resign. But I’d like to know what that pretty young woman was doing having an affair with him. I’m not saying he was set up, but by the looks of him, he’d be an easy mark.

It gets worse. There is a video, posted gleefully on DU, of Congressman Souder promoting abstinence education.

The interviewer is the young woman in question...

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Lets not pretend for one second that Souder has done anything laudable by resigning. Mark Souder could have resigned two weeks ago or two months ago - before the primary election. Instead he stayed in it and tried to keep a lid on this so he could get elected to one more term... and thereby get his full pension.

This special election is going to cost Indiana taxpayers in excess of $1 million dollars. This is at a time when Mark Souder's district is laying off hundreds of teachers... good quality teachers who are only losing their jobs due to budget shortfalls. I know some of those teachers personally - a lot of them are more conservative than I am, and some of them will likely lose their jobs because of the expense of the special election.

How much more will Souder's election cost us? How many more teachers will lose their jobs due to shortfalls caused by this special election?

Mark Souder needs to pay for the cost of this election himself. He's a worthless puke. Anyone that wants to say what a wonderful guy he is because he had a (r) after his name and resigned in disgrace is living in the land of Oz.
