Though federal regulations require offshore drilling locations to be inspected by the Department of the Interior's Minerals Mining Service every 30 days, those inspections have repeatedly not happened since the Deepwater Horizon site was permitted by MMS in 2001 – including one out of every four months since President Obama's inauguration.

ABC News has learned that in the 16 months from January 2009 through April 2010 MMS failed to inspect Deepwater Horizon four times – in May 2009, August 2009, December 2009, and January 2010.

The reasons for the lack of inspections, sources said, were logistic.

Rule One: Never inspect a prospective donor’s business.

Rule Two: government is too big, too dependent on money to protect the American people and do its job.

( Federal Regulator Repeatedly Failed to Inspect Deepwater Horizon – Including for... OBAMA PRESIDENCY ) ..

Somehow ? we won't hear much of this in the main stream media...

So ? let me get this correct, it was the Federal government under the Obama Administration that failed to inspect the oil rig out in the Gulf.... so the Federal government neglected to do their jobs and want to point the blame at someone else..

Remember how President Bush got all the grief from the levees in New Orleans after Katrina ? .....

Well, those oil spill in the Gulf is Obama's failure and Obama's Katrina...

Wall St? Wait 'till they get their hands entirely around health care. A paper cut will soon become a terminal illness.

Give it a rest will you guys?

This would only be a big deal if Obama had received huge campaign contributions from BP related interests. He would never do anything so obvious as trade political favors for money. Would he?

I'm afraid the oil company is about to go under the bus...along with the Fed Inspection folks.

Not for nothing, but oil is a strategic resource and the govt is doing a shi*** job of helping.

For all we know, it was an act of God....

I’ll bet that whoever the inspector was, they were a union type zero supporter who get’s seasick in the bathtub.

They missed 4 out of 16 inspections, the last one in Jan 2010. This is a deflection. The bigger issue is how they inspected the rig 12 times and didn't catch anything, esp in the LAST THREE MONTHS.

I'm surprised the GOP isn't hammering away at this. It happened under Obama's watch and he will lose support in his own party for it.

BP better come up with some BIG “campaign contributions”.
Funneled via some secret numbered account in Switzerland.

They got favored status with their donations to Obama.
Time to pay up MUCH more to keep that $75 million cap on damages in place!!!
