Photos reveal inside look at East Austin tunnel home
by NOELLE NEWTON / KVUE News Posted on May 18, 2010 at 5:34 PM Updated today at 6:14 PM
SNIPPET: "The City of Austin Tuesday released photos of the web of tunnels a man dug underneath his East Austin home.
Under the yellow home are three stories of tunnels. For at least two years, neighbors suspected owner Jose Del Rio was up to something strange, but had no idea just how busy he'd been."
SNIPPET: "On Tuesday, the city released pictures from below taken by code compliance officers. Del Rio apparently used ladders to travel from level to level."
SNIPPET: "According to a search warrant executed on May 8th, officers found 19 guns down there, ammunition, batteries and chemicals"

No medal involved, so I doubt that.
The Obama administration is living proof of that.
So he had a search warrent issued for violating building codes? And he was (gasp) a gun owner? Remember, according to the cap and trade legislation worming its way though the halls of power none of us will be able to sell our houses until the property is thoroughly inspected by EPA officials and brought up to the proper ‘green’ standards. Of course, once they are in the house they could find anything.
I can find a lot more at the police department and gun stores and probably a lot of other folks’ homes.
If you know how many you have, you don’t have enough.
Except maybe violating building codes, I don't see what he has done is entirely wrong..........
If he’s not hurting anybody, what’s the problem?
I was thinking the same thing, in fact I would ask to fill out the permits and continue working. It's probably going to be a bomb shelter or extended cellar. Those batteries are commonly used for 110 volt lights.
Yahbut he has CHEMICALS too!! / s
Couldn’t the town hit him up for additional property taxes on the improvements?
And they will all be rusty pieces of junk. Tunnels and caves are DAMP.
Just getting ready for the Zombies.
Like your tag line, very true.
It’s a long dig from Austin to Mexico!!

UPDATE:
Consultants: Fill in East Austin bunker”
By Jeremy Schwartz | Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 03:30 PM
SNIPPET: “Last week, a police SWAT team, bomb squad and fire search and rescue team searched the home for more than four hours after a visit to the home from code officials. The search yielded weapons, inert grenades and empty 55-gallon barrels.”
SNIPPET: “Martinez said officials are also concerned about potentially hazardous materials found in the bunker, including compressed gas tanks and lead acid batteries.”
SNIPPET: “Del Rio has not been charged with any code violations, Martinez said.
Austin police said Tuesday that Del Rio is not the subject of a criminal investigation. Austin police Cpl. Scott Perry said the Police Department is storing a number of Del Rios legal firearms while he is unable to re-enter his home. We didnt confiscate anything, Perry said.”
If they had, the neighbors might not have noticed. We blew three 41 lb shaped charges in a VC tunnel and it only sounded like the cap & det cord blew.
Not much evidence on the surface, other than a puff of dirt from an air vent hole. Of course, they were about 75 yards back in from the entrance. But they did blow a nice 8-10 foot hole in the ceiling of the tunnel! :-)
Another question: Does the City of Austin Building Code cover tunnel digging? Do you need electrical outlets every 6 feet? GFCI? Green sheetrock, or will regular 1/2" do?
Tunnel to Mexico?
In that case they’ll let him go.
Well they found Tom and Del Rios,..but they haven't found Harry or Dick or Jaime or Jose.
We'll press forward with Harry with every thing we got!
Behold, the Underminer! I'm always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me! I hereby declare war on peace and happiness! Soon, all will tremble before me!
Heh heh, right at the end of the movie, when I was thinking, “Wait a minute, I haven’t heard John Ratzenberger’s voice, yet.”
